How much of your stuff have your sold to clear debt?
I've decided I'm going to sell some of my stuff to try and make a dent into my debt. I've tried this before by selling the odd thing, but I was thinking this time to be a bit more radical and sell a lot more - CDs etc... I wish I had a cupboard full of designer handbags to sell...at least something to show for £3k of…

Hello to you all. Should I cancel the Life Assurance
Now in normal circumstances I wouldn't even bother asking the question but in recent weeks our ircumstances have changed. Basically we have inherited enough money to pay off our mortgage and although I know that it would have made more DFW sense to pay off some of the credit card debit, becuase of how we inherited the…

HSBC keep phoning me!!
Quite funny really...As some of you know we are not only saddled with our debts but also most are on horrifying interest rates.. Last night some poor lady from HSBC phoned to ask if there was anything they could do for us at the moment, might have something to do with the fact we haven't been overdrawn since I don't know…

YAY! We did it....
we got our PPI cancelled with Barclays and they have admitted they mis-sold (not in so many words) it to us and will refund the whole lot! Thats just short of £6000! :T One thing though, does anybody know if the interest automatically gets deducted too. It was £6000 for the protection and then another £2000 in interest, so…

Half way there!!!!...
... just thought people might like to know that I've just passed the half-way point with paying off my debts, due in no small part to all the wonderful people who post on the MSE website ... When I had my lightbulb moment in September 2005 I was £15888 in debt: half of that is £7944 (obviously*) and I've just brought the…

We want to move house but owe £3k on credit card...
Will it stand against us? I'm working hard to pay it off (my debt) but am concerened that when we start to look around for our second house early next year, my debt, although small(ish) will stand against us when applying for our mortgage? I'm going to try and step up the gear with trying to save money and earn extra, but…

Big overdraft
I wonder if anyone can offer advice, I've not long woke up to our finances to be honest and though I'm heading in the right direction now, there may be a better way to go about things. We don't have any credit cards or other debt (apart from mortgage) but we are about £3000 into a £3500 overdraft. In the last couple of…

Hi Guys, I posted a similar thread in the Credit Card forum last week and got some useful replies, but I'm hoping you guys might be able to set me straight too. My debt is for just under £4000 with Barclaycard. I moved house and didn't inform them of the change of address. My mother offered to pay it off monthly so that I…

Nice surprise this morning
It doesn't take much these days! I doubt it was a nice surprise for my friend, more of a nasty shock, but she had a broken cap on a tooth so I offered to hold her hand at the dentist - or at least drive her in and read Hello while she was tortured! It wasn't too bad in the end so she offered to buy me a coffee afterwards,…
