Will & Wishes & the letter of the law
Hi All, I'm the executor for my Grandmothers estate. The will calls for the estate to be split equally between her 3 children, one of which has been living with her for the last 30 years. My Grandmother asked me (but did not state in the will) to give him 6 months in the house to sort himself out and I intend to fulfil…

Thank you

Probate Advice
Hello, I've learned a lot from this forum already so thank you. First time post though. Currently applying for probate as executor for a family friend and looking for some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing(s). The estate is over the IHT threshold but as he was widowed relatively recently and all of his wife's…

Additional inscription on headstone - cost & paid from estate
Father is being cremated, & we as family are having the ashes returned. His parents are buried, & so we are thinking of having the ashes scattered there, & an inscription added to the existing headstone. What sort of cost would a simple/basic inscription be? Would this, & the cemetery charge, be payable by the estate?

Executor problems
My Mother is a beneficiary in a her mothers Will and she has Alzheimer’s so therefore it’s difficult for her to understand certain information. My mothers sister ( who is the executor) and her husband turned up with a letter for my mother to sign something to do with the Will, I’m not sure what it was about. My father told…

No Will
Could anyone advise how we might go about dealing with our deceased Dad's estate without the expense of a lawyer, and how difficult it is likely to be? He died almost 3 months ago in Scotland with no will and we haven't done anything yet due to worry about the cost of solicitors fees. There is only myself and my brother…

Leaving daughter out of will, advice needed please.
My daughter in her 40s and I have always had a bit of a fraught relationship and now she's basically stopped communicating with me. I've decided to amend my will so that my granddaughter inherits my daughter's share instead. Can my daughter contest this after my death do you think? She has a really good job so will not be…

Deed of Variation to reduce IHT
My Father recently passed away. My sister and I are executors and are intending to handle probate ourselves. From a first look at the estate it would appear that as things stand we are going to be paying IHT. We are interested in the possibility of using a Deed of Variation to reduce or even eliminate the IHT. Neither of…

Very quick recap - 4 daughters (from 2 marriages), daughters 1+2 very unhappy and angry and bitter that they didn’t get the house. Daughter 4 gave 1+2 a bunch of money to even things up…

Executor at a distance
My mother died (not unexpectedly) a couple of months ago leaving a family friend as executor and me as sole beneficiary. There is a house to sell (just below the IHT threshold). The other executor is willing to add me as an executor and pass on responsibility for the house sale to me (I've already spoken to my conveyancer…

P2P investment ... redemption on death
Something that occurred to me out of the blue just now. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this situation seeing as Peer to Peer investments are quite a new thing and realising your investment can take time as it depends upon your holding...your multiple loan parts... being bought by existing or new investors…

Probate Fee Hike - Delayed?
Does anyone know if this fee hike is still safely buried or has it somehow got through the government morass? We are just starting the process of applying and it would be nice to know, as we could be looking at a major cost to be found before the sale of the house can go through.

Executor. What if I don't have any?
Many of you would think that it's some fishy business. But it's not. I don't have anyone I can trust to be an executor. Two friends I could trust with the money don't want it. My daughter and stepdaughter who will inherit - I don't think they can do it without risk of getting squeezed in the process and get a lot of…
