Dealing with estate in the USA

Hi,

Looking for some help, my uncle passed away in America he was a US Citizen, he had no spouse or children. All his family /next of kin are based in the UK, brothers and sisters. What is the best way to deal with this, there is no will, do we need to contact a Solicitor in the UK to help with the estate etc. ?

Thanks

First result of a search suggests intestate rules vary from State to State https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/how-estate-settled-if-theres-32442.html
I would have thought you would be better placed dealing with a law firm local to the deceased home address. Is the estate of a reasonable size to warrant the effort / possible expense?

Yes or get a Solicitor in the UK to communicate with a lawyer in the US on our behalf ? I think there is a few thousand in the estate.

    Thanks

There wont be much left for the beneficiaries if there are two sets of lawyers getting their charges from a pot of only a few thousand $s or £s assuming they would be interested in the business at all. For a few hundred thousand perhaps, otherwise otherwise.

Why do you need a UK solicitor if the deceased was a US citizen with presumably US assets living in the US?

If you really mean just a few thousand $/£s and tyere are no US friends who could possibly manage things there for free it may not be worth doing anything.
