My Halifax Easycash account has changed
I've just logged into my Halifax online banking to find my Easycash account seems to have been converted to a Bank Account with Visa debit?! I haven't requested a change as I like my Visa Electron. Has anyone else experienced this recently? I think I need to call the telephone banking team and try and find out what is…

5 year bond - scam?
I'm looking into opening a 5 year bond at 4.5% from Scottish Widows. Someone told me that I won't be getting 4.5% each year, for 5 years, but instead I'll be getting a total of 4.5% over the 5 year period (i.e. around 0.9% each year). Is this true (of this, or any other bond from any bank)? If yes, sounds a little 'scammy'…

Santander Faster Payments
For my sins I have a Santander account. I only keep it because it's an old A&L premier which comes with free travel insurance. It drives me crazy that the faster payment system seems to be so hit and miss ONLY with Santander. Even payments of £300 or lower sometimes go through and sometimes don't. Last week I made a £300…

Why do you need so many current a/c ?
In some occasions when you try to open a new Bank A/C the bank is ‘expecting’ you to make your new current a/c as a main account. Learning from this forum and having done it by myself, I am aware that the main purpose people have many bank a/c is just to take advantage of the offer such as switching incentive of £100/£50,…

£50 sign up bonus for Halifax. No sign of it...
Hi, Has anyone took up the offer Halifax has for their Reward Current Account? I saw this offer on Money Saving Expert and, as I don't use an overdraft or go into the red it seemed like a good deal... plus you get £5 just for getting your wages paid in to the account each month. Furthermore you supposedly got £50 for…

Paid a cheque in using ATM deposit facility
Paid a DVLA cheque in to my local Halifax branch ATM machine on Thursday. Got a deposit receipt (which I have now lost) and then took £30 cash out with a withdrawal receipt (now lost too). The transaction for the cash has shown on my statement but there is no entry or balance change for the cheque. I have tried calling the…

What would your bank do?
Due to some bad luck and a bit of a !!!! up on my part a funds transfer (via faster payments set up in advance) into my current account and a credit card direct debit request missed each other by an unknown number of hours or minutes and the bank refused the DD which would have exceeded the agreed overdraft limit by about…

Tax on interest
As far as I understand it, if your income is below the threshold, you don't pay any tax on interest income. The £5 Halifax reward is £6.25 gross - does this not mean you should be getting the £6.25 if you are below the threshold? I can't remember if Halifax set a rule at a minimum level of income - and that rule was above…

Ex opened accounts in my name
Hi, A friend of mine has recently split from their partner. This partner had a lot of debt. It now turns out that most of the debt was in my friends name with cards/loans opened over the internet. Obviously the partner knew all the DOB etc and had access to copies of passports. So the ex opened accounts in my friends name…

Barclays 'Cleared Funds' handling - Is it legal?

If you deposit cash at a branch after 3.30pm-4pm, the funds will appear on…

Card Authorisation
Hi I'm buying a used car from a dealer (£2195) and I placed a deposit on it last week (£200). The deposit has been taken from my account absolutely fine with no problems. The dealer was sorting some bits out (MOT, Tax etc.) so I went to pay for it yesterday and used my HSBC Visa debit card. I was paying £1995 on my card…

Moving direct debits
Hello Quick question which I wonder if anyone has the answer to.... Can a bank move direct debits for you or do you need to contact the actual company? Specifically I'm thinking of moving both mine and my husbands direct debits (to pay for things like car insurance) from our sole accounts over to our joint account. For…
