Eco boiler scheme - 1 Green Place

Options
Hi, does anyone have any experience of the Eco boiler grant scheme and a company called One Green Place? I'm trying to find out info about them as my mum is about to do the Eco boiler scheme through them and has been asked to contribute £900 to the costs? Is this company legit? How do I find a suitable company for the Eco boiler scheme? Thanks.

A lot of the utility providers use 1 green place. My mother applied for a free boiler from sse and they have passed her onto them. We are waiting for a call to set up a survey but if they come back and want around £900 to provide and install a new boiler then there is no way my mother would go through with it.

My experience has not been good so far. They did a technical survey last week. I paid £240 during the visit and was assured this would be my total contribution. I signed a form confirming this containing the clause:

"I also confirm that the company named above has made it clear that I will not be liable for any additional charges towards the installation of my boiler."

Despite this they are now asking a further £500 before they will install, saying the surveyor made a mistake and a 'boiler uplift' is needed. I know he did not make a mistake because I discussed it fully with him.

E-on are now pursuing this with 1 Green Place.

Hello gjhardwick and welcome to the Forums.

I'm sorry your experience with 1 Green Place hasn't been good so far. They are one of the contractors we use to look after work organised under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). These applications are looked after by a specialist area of the business and these advisors are best placed to help with your concerns. There's more information, including contact details, on our website in the 'Saving Energy' section.

Hopefully, this is the area you're talking to but, if not, hope this helps point you in the right direction.

    Hi

My mum has a similar issue. She has applied for a 'free' boiler via Free Heating, which is part of the EnergyLink Group. She has had no survey and they can fit the boiler 2 days after her application, but are charging her £750 for the fitting of the flue etc. I am just wondering if anyone knows if this company is legitimate??

    Many thanks, Liz

Many thanks for the welcome, Malc.

Yes, I have no complaints about e-on, who seem to be doing what they can to sort the problem out. OTOH I have, at best, very mixed feelings about 1 Green Place, who were the subject of the OP.

You're welcome Graham. Glad, at least, that we're doing our bit. Hope you've let our ECO team know about your misgivings with the contractor. This sort of feedback is vital. I'll send this thread through to them too.

    Thanks again Graham.

Thanks to e-on intervention 1 Green Place have now backed down and agreed to fit at the quoted price.

Good result, but on the basis of this experience I certainly wouldn't recommend 1GP to anyone.

Unfortunately, though, it isn't the customer's choice to make since so many energy companies use them.

If someone, eligible under the ECO scheme, wish to have boiller made by a particular manufacturer, for example, Worcester Bosch, can e.on do this or only the manufacturers e.on or the installer has dealings with?
Would the new boiler come with the normal 5 year guarantee by the manufacturer or would it less under the ECO scheme?
    Thank you
