Want my OH to have more of a social life.

Been married for 5 years, been together for 9. Husbands social circle has decreased over time. If he's not at work (and he does work hard for the four of us) he's at home.

I love him to bits but would love him to have a social life himself and so I could get some me time - fed up of him moaning through the soaps, and more importantly for him to get out a bit more.

Obviously I don't want to push him into a scenario where he's up to no good I just think he secretly misses his social life just needs a push towards something that would give him that.

Any suggestions?

  • Wow, my wife could have written that. I too am a dad, in my mid-30s, with a limited social life due to moving around the country too much for work and education. What's worse is I work from home 4-5 days a week so I do go a bit stir crazy.

So far I've considered... the Freemasons (too expensive), joining a local walking club (I went once.. it was an attempt to sell powdered food), the local photography club (they're all a bit old..) and i guess i've given up - trying to travel a bit more mid-week to see old uni friends.
  • Perhaps he just needs a hobby which keeps him out of your way. (that sounds horrible :) ), or perhaps joining a local pub team, pool/darts/snooker, or introduce him to youtube and type in 'funny cat videos', you may lose him for a month :)

How about just simply asking him if he does miss his previous social life and take it from there?

Have a look at meetup.com to see if there are any groups he'd be interested in.

Anybody else got OH's in clubs? Any suggestions for good social clubs - i'm not sure if hes keen on anything that centred on one interest, I think he'd like something that offers a variety of social opportunities.

    Hi

Could nt help noticing the comparisons between me and your other half.

I got involved with Round Table a few years ago and they have filled that social void. Pretty easy going. We have a maximum age of 45 so not old and not expensive. We also help out a bit in the community which stamps my doing good card.

I hope he gives them a go - not sure where you are but there are lots of clubs or similar about

    ?

What does he want? Maybe he's happy as he is. It seems to be more about what YOU want rather than his feelings on the matter.

Indeed, I struggle to understand how as an adult, if he wanted to know more about social opportunities, he couldn't look for them himself or ask for your opinion if he needed inspiration.

Get another TV (if you only have one) and take yourself off to watch your soaps, thus forcing him to find something else to do.
