1 What is the sartorial significance of Sunderland AFC’s winning of the 1935-’36 First Division?
It was the last time a team that wore stripes as their first choice kit won the English Football League Championship - http://thefootballattic.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/ive-got-stripes-five-most-wretched.html -There's another magical aspect to striped football shirts of a sort unrelated to sartorial concerns: teams who wear them underachieve magnificently. The last time a team who wore stripes as their first choice kit won the English football league championship was Sunderland in 1935/36 and the last FA Cup winner in stripes were the largely otherwise stripe-free Coventry City in 1987. The last team who are regular striped shirt wearers to prevail in football's oldest competition: Southampton, in 1976. And naturally, they weren't wearing their red and white striped shirts that day... the impossible glamour of the no-hoper is hard to overlook.Posting is a privilege, not a right. 7 Complete this sequence: Julie, Kate, Liz, Mandy, Kylie, Abbey and…
Heidi - http://in.bookmyshow.com/entertainment/sebastian-vettel-two-time-indian-grand-prix-winner/25046 -Sebastian Vettel, 26, the sole winner of the Indian GP (2011 and 2012), is more commonly known as the youngest triple World Champion in the history of F1. In the 2013 season, he is well on his way to his 4th consecutive World title, a feat only bettered before by the great Michael Schumacher (5 in a row). Midway through the season, he holds a healthy 42 point lead over perennial runner-up Raikkonen, with Alonso tapering away in his sub-standard Ferrari.
Here is a bit of trivia about young Beatles fan Vettel, who over the years could outperform his childhood idol and fellow German Schumacher:
-Vettel is the youngest ever driver to finish runnerup in a World Championship (2009), in his first season with Red Bull.
-The Indian GP (2011) holds a particular significance for the German, as he became the youngest driver ever to complete a triple Grand Slam (pole position, win, fastest lap AND led every lap).
-He is the youngest driver to score Championship points (USA, 2007 at 19 years 349 days) with BMW Sauber, the youngest to lead a race, the youngest to secure pole position and the youngest ever F1 driver to win a race. (2008 Italian GP with Toro Rosso).
-He is already 3rd on the all-time list (39) of pole positions behind Schumacher and Senna.
-He is the youngest test driver (BMW Sauber) in the history of F1 (2006 Italian GP).
-Vettel joined Toro Rosso in 2007 and was criticized as an ‘inexperienced kid’ by now-teammate Mark Webber at the Japanese Grand Prix after a crash.
-Vettel began 2008 as the only driver to not finish the first four races to the season.
-According to Toro Rosso’s technical director in 2008, ‘something changed’ at the European Grand Prix in Valencia after a relatively disappointing retirement-prone season for young Vettel.
-When he won the Italian Grand Prix in 2008 with Toro Rosso, it was the team’s first ever pole and win.
-Vettel was named Rookie Of The Year for his 2008 season with Toro Rosso.
-He won his first race with Red Bull in his first season with them in 2009, at the Chinese Grand Prix after replacing David Coulthard for the season. He thus became the youngest driver to win two races with two different teams.
-2009 was an action packed year for the German, suffering from multiple retirements with Red Bull. He won the season’s last race at Abu Dhabi to finish 2nd in the Championship behind Button.
-In 2010, Vettel entered the season ending Abu Dhabi GP in third place, 15 points behind Alonso and 7 points behind Webber. He won the race, becoming only the second driver ever to win a Championship title without leading the standings throughout the season.
-2011 was a record breaking season for Vettel with 15 poles, 11 wins and 17 podiums from 19 races. A record 392 points were earned, as he became Double World Champion for Red Bull. Vettel led for a record 739 laps in the season.
-Vettel won 2012 by 3 points over Alonso, beating Senna’s record of having won his 3rd when he was 31. Vettel was only 25.
-He also holds the embarrassing record of the shortest time having elapsed before being gaining a penalty- only 9 seconds into his career at the Turkish Grand Prix in 2006).
-Vettel grew up a fan of ‘Three Michaels’: Schumacher, Jordan and Jackson.
-He has named his cars since 2008: Julie, Kate, Kate’s Dirty Sister (2009), Luscious Liz, Randy Mandy (2010), Kinky Kylie (2011), Abbey (2012) and Hungry Heidi (2013).
- Vettel has won 30 races out of his 111 starts as a pro.Posting is a privilege, not a right. This is a privately-owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right.
