TV, PC, Monitor etc - Amazing Power Consumption Development

Current owned gadgets that probably need upgrading and their power consumption:

PC (7 years old, still ok) - 120W
TV (5 years old, 20" LCD) - 70W
Monitor (6 years old, 19") - 53W
Total power consumption = 243W

I can now get new:

A slightly faster PC - 25W
A bigger 22" LED TV - 20W
A bigger 23" Monitor - 20W
Total power consumption = 65W

A saving of 178W. Rought calculations, using each device 8 hours per day = 1424W saved per day or 519,760W per year. If I pay 13p per kwh, a saving of £68 per year using better equipment.

    The new TV is £145. New PC is £200. New monitor £100. £445.

    If I buy these gadgets and use them for 7 years, a saving of more than £445, so they are 'free'.

    An easy decision I think, but I currently live with parents so this is the only thing stopping me because they pay the bill (guilt :embarasse).

    I just think it is a magnificent development in technology. So much depressing news about rising electricity prices but there is hope!

    7 years?
    a £200 PC isnt going to last 7 years
    monitor,well maybe but you will have better and more energy efficient ones in that time many times over
    same for the TV

    My current PC is 7 years old and though its noisy and huge, it runs great. Zero problems.

    I agree that in years that the PCs will probably use even less power consumption. But if I can get the PC that uses 25W just now instead of my current 120W PC, this is a MASSIVE saving. The PCs in the future may be 15W which is not a big saving.

    You will not get a pc using only 25W - a laptop , yes - more like 100+ watts.

    There has been a drive for manufacturers to reduce power consumption over a wide range of technology in the last few years - Looks like it is paying-off. :)
