    Hello. What a brilliant thread.

These are my goals for 2014. (There are eight of them cause that is my lucky number. I am just a wee bit superstitious when it comes to that number).
    :o

    1) clear debt by end 2014.
    2) budget better!!
    3) save £60 a month for a contingency fund.
    4) take part in challenges to keep foccussed.
    5) lose 72lbs in weight.
    6) OH to get his dream flying job.
    7) Plan a dream holiday to New York.
    8) get a nice picture of me and OH to go on display.

I currently have four challenges for the year...
    * my OH and I are contributing £1 a day to a pot until November 1st which will become our xmas fund for 2014 (where I went wrong this year).
    * the weekly challenge which is going to be a toughie. (plan is for OH and I to pay half each). It is hopefully for a holiday fund so we can go away in 2015.
    * thirdly is NSK's monthly challenge which changes each month.
    * maintain my diary so that I can keep track of how far I have come.
    Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91
    Savings: £0/£6400

I joined a similar thread last January and we all updated in December. Out of the 5 goals I set I achieved 3 completely, 1 75% and the other I changed my mind. Make sure to come back next year and update!

    My goals for 2014:

    * stop smoking - again!
    * save £7000
    * learn some Portuguese (oh is Brazilian as are his family and one aunt I can hardly communicate with!)
    * work on social life. This year on my birthday I felt really lonely and decided I won't feel that way again next!
    * sew 75% of the clothes I wear. will dedicate 3 x sessions a week to this
    * finish renovating our house. We have the hallway, lounge, bedroom & garden left to finish
    * finally visit Brazil
    * go to 5 festivals - plans for this already in swing with best friend and her husband
    DF as at 30/12/16

Great thread, really inspiring to hear what others are aiming for in 2014!

I've split my goals into categories to help bring myself a bit of focus:

    Financial
    • Pay £1500 credit card off by end Feb, and KEEP IT AT ZERO (you'd think I'd learn, but apparently not!)
    • Finish paying car loan by July, and resist urge to upgrade again
    • Continue in earnest with mortgage overpayments, particularly from July once credit card and car loan cleared
    • Build small emergency pot

    Personal
    • Keep reminding self of difference between planning and worrying, and stick with former (I'm the type that pointlessly runs things through in my mind, over, and over, and over...)
    • Continue with running club recently joined and complete x2 10k's
    • Begin learning French
    • Continue with sewing, treat self to x1 workshop
    • Continue emphasis on work life balance with a break of some sort every 3 months
    • Learn to be content, to count my blessings and be thankful for what I've got, rather than focusing on the negatives

    Relationship
    • Get out and make more memories together :)

Hi everyone. Thanks for the thread NYD - it's a great idea.

I had a similar list of goals last year and can't say I've got very far with them, but I am determined this year.

    My goals for 2014 are
    • finance - clear all debt so I can stop thinking about it!
    • home - clear and clean flat so that I can move if I want to.
    • work - get organised and focussed so that I can move forward.
    • physical - get healthy, fit and looking good.
    • social - do at least one social-type activity a week.

    And in the meantime

live, laugh, love (as my new 2014 calendar says) :)
    Paydays till DFD :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

    Goals for 2014.

    Financial goals.

    1)Pay off my £18,000 debt.
2)Actively start selling things to pay off my debt and de-clutter in the process (I have so many books/clothes that I don't use/need).
3)Not to buy any new things (after being a student, I recently started working and spending too much money. Credit was a little easier (actually a lot easier) to come by and unfortunately I took advantage of it. This has got to stop.:(

    Personal goals.
    1)To try and start writing.
2)To try and start a small business.
3)Be more organised - I have an awful habit of leaving everything to the last moment.
4)To spend more time making and cultivating new friendships.
5)To look after myself a little better - eat better, drink less, make time for me to relax and pamper myself cheaply.

To revisit this at the end of 2014 to see how much I have managed to achieve.

    A Happy and Debt-busting 2014 to all.:)
One debt in 100 days £384/1264(£865 left)
Pay all your debt off by xmas 2014 £276/18864

Thanks for all the replies everyone- some really great ideas that have been given me food for thought!!! Love the idea about creativity - writing a book, starting a business, learning a new language. I really don't do enough of this, it's more -I definitely need more creativity in my life! I've been putting off doing my albums for 4 years (4 of them - Safari in Kenya/beach holiday in Tanzania, trip to Australia, HK and Thailand, wedding album and New York trip - all of which contributed to our mega debt may I add!) so this should be enough to keep my creativity busy!!!

I'd also like to add 2 more!!!:

    - Make decisions that suit me and my family and stop worrying to the point of stupidity if it is not what other people want (I often go along with things to please others and not let them down but others don't hesitate to change plans if it doesn't suit them which makes me feel let down - I do hate changing plans but sometimes you just have to)
    - exfoliate twice a week!

Mine are so scary, I hardly dare write them down ...

    1. Give up alcohol for a year
    2. Pay off £10k of debt

Frankly, I'm more scared of the first one than the second, but I know it's the key to unlocking the new habits I want to take up of ...

    3. Declutter the garage (eBay/car boot/tip) - to help clear the debts. Easier to get my act into gear at weekends if I haven't got a thick head from red wine.
    4. Healthy eating 90% of the time - to lose weight and have more energy. Staying off alcohol helps me stay off the snacks in the evening.
    5. Do more knitting - saves on snacking, uses up some of the wool mountain stash, and might even make something useful for next winter
    6. Be more frugal with food - use up leftovers better

What do you think, too ambitious?

It really depends how committed you are to acheiving your goals I guess.....! To be honest, they are connected. If you give up alcohol, you'll contribute to paying your £10K, eating healthy, doing more as you'll be more motivated. I don't think I could give up alcohol for a year but I could do it for a week or a month and then take it from there.

Good luck whatever you decide! You will make it if you put your mind to it!!!
