Price hike at Asda

Options
We went to Asda, Dunstable, the other day to purchase the odd bits which we cannot normally obtain at Aldi, and among the items which we regularly get from Asda is dripping, which up to now has been selling at 60p. for 500 grams. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the packs were now only 250 grams, but were still priced at 60p. When I queried this with one of the staff, I was told that Asda no longer stocked the 500 g. size, and would not be doing so in the foreseeable future. However, the price for the smaller packs will remain at 60p.
No wonder they are losing customers. If this is their way of competing with Aldi and Lidl, they will need all the help they can get.

It's called "shrinkflation" - things get smaller but the price stays the same..

    See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4765235&page=15. Post #290.

The 500g packs are still available in Sainsbury's for 75p. They're currently not available on Tesco's website, but they were 72p on 04/04/2015.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

Or they'll announce a rollback and drop 50p off and state how they're always lowering prices.

What's the word for inflation before a rollback? Sleight of hand? Sleight off pound?

To be fair asda are quite reasonable. Only place were you can get decent plant pots for cheap. Even b&q are more expensive than asda on the 3" plant pots

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Steve, managed to pick some up at Tesco this morning (72p). Left a complaint on Asda's f/b page, yesterday, but so far no response.

This phenomina can occur when a bloke walks into a very cold sea.

Does complaining on Facebook pages like this work?

Its being let down by trains and London Underground that most makes me want to vent on social media :(

Tesco have just also reduced the pack size to 250g. Their price is 69p.

Is it the manufacturer (Princes) or the supermarkets behind this?

In any event, it looks like it might be a good idea to stock up on a couple of 500g blocks from Sainsbury's.

Update: Tesco, Eastville, Bristol still had 500g packs for 72p on the shelf earlier today.
