Comet at Farnborough Gate (Hampshire) advertising prices at 10,20 and 30% off, however almost everything is cheaper via Amazon even given these reductions.

Don't get caught up in the idea there are any bargains to be had, not yet anyway!

Went in looking for a new microwave - they're 20% off but based on the marked price, there are no bargains to be had at all. A poor collection and better options online.

I just got back from the Byfleet store. 10% off large ticket items and 20% off smaller ticket items. I bought a Samsung TV that was reduced from £500 to £449 in the sale and then another 10% off (so £404.10). Cheapest place selling it online was £440incl slow delivery (£10 extra for quick delivery).

which model was that? I was in at lunchtime and saw a 40 inch Samsung Smart TV for £449 which i quite fancied, but forgot to note the model number ...

compare comet sale prices to currys, they are not cheap mse compre the ones you have
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

as others have said their sale prices not great whilst sad for those who are facing loosing their jobs we alone are responsible for our own finances and our pennies will for the majority of items go a lot further else where
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

As a general rule of thumb you could save the 10% by shopping around anyway. The only buy I was tempted to make was 2 x Ipod Mini that we had decided on getting for Xmas anyway, Apple hardly ever discount so 10% and a solid Apple warranty is good enough for me. Must admit that a lot of the other items were already 10-20% more expensive than the cheapest alternative source so all the 10% did was bring them back in line.

Would agree that this closure is extremely sad dfor all of the staff although it at least sounds like some are being offered alternate employment already..

Went into Comet in Cambridge today. Not difficult to see why they are going out of business. Dated showroom, items poorly displayed, lighting poor. Maybe 20 shoppers there max.

Also went to the one in Cambridge with a friend. He wanted a TV. They wouldn't barter or even take a price match after my friend showed the guy the same TV online for less than their liquidation price. Methinks that despite going to the wall, the old-school practise of high pricing is still alive and well.

Be warned. I visited the Watford store yesterday, and only bought a TV wall bracket. The box was security sealed, but when I got home the contents had clearly been tampered with. Thankfully only one part was missing that isn't required for my TV anyway, but with Comet no longer giving refunds, I'd urge people to check the contents of any product they purchase, and ensure you're receiving what you believe you're buying.

Also... despite massive signs saying 'EVERYTHING MUST GO', there were a number of items on the shelve clearly stating they cannot be sold... why?

Is it worth opening up discussion about OpCapita as well? They are buying retailers 10 to the dozen at the moment, on the proviso of saving jobs and stores... but actually they seem only to leech the companies dry. I was an unfortunate Game Group shareholder, I should have seen the administration coming, but OpCapita bought Game Group for practically nothing also "saving jobs". Seems to me that if they're now officially liquidating businesses like Comet having made a £20m profit from the sale agreement with their original owners, that they're just delaying the inevitable and simply keeping the high-street not competitive with online stores?
