When do you turn your heating on?

I'm curious when people give into the chill in the air and switch on their heating.
Personally I live in Cambridge (where the high is about 15C these days) and I'm holding out, but barely. Currently wrapped up in a blanket and still freezing!

I wanted to leave it till October, but hubby put it on for a few hours on 30th September.
It's been on for about an hour a day since then (early morning).
West Midlands - warmer than Cambridge I would think.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We like to be comfortable and the temperature is kept above 19c at all times during the day. The thought of sitting with blankets to keep warm is like turning the clock back 50 years.0

What temperature do you set your combi to? Do you have it coming on off all day about 20C for example.
or heat on for 2 hours a day or so. Whats the most economical way?0 -
The bathroom heater is switched on a long time before the rest because bathroom is on the northeast corner of the building and gets chilly.
Actually I've had a heater set to low in my spare room every night even through the summer because getting mould taking hold in 60 boxes of things would be the stuff of nightmares.0 -

Central heating stays off until November. However we have open coal fires if its gets a bit chilly.0

That thread was 10 years ago and it comes up every year without fail.
Also without fail will be the posts saying they are perfectly happy with the room at 10C or some other stupidly low temperature.

It contains this table, which causes astonishment and derision - and agreement!;)
24C - top range of comfort
21C - recommended living room temperature
Less than 20C - death risk begins
18C - recommended bedroom temperature
16C - resistance to respiratory diseases weakened
12C - more than two hours at this temperature raises blood pressure and increases heart attack and stroke risk
5C - Significant risk of hypothermia

Ours is set at 15 degrees, at the moment, so rarely kicks in, but if I'm feeling really unwell , I use the temporary override in a morning or late evening, but most of the time the gas fire is sufficient.0
