Yeah that sounds fine if you plug it in using the ethernet cable,
you will need your talktalk username and password, and then just
follow the intrutions that came with it on setting it up.
This will replace you current speedtoch modem which you
wont need anymore, once the new router is working you can
remove the speedtouch software from your pc0 -
Hi,
I have connected the router, all the lights are on as they are meant to be. I then inserted the cd and got as far as the username and password screen where it wants my talktalk details - I put these in and it doesn't go any further - a status/progress bar completes along the bottom of the screen but I am still at the username and password page.
I have checked with talktalk that I am using the correct username/password. They say that they can see that I am connected to the server but I cannot access any web page.
I have tried this with and without Norton enabled, when it is enabled I am getting Norton rules flags coming up.
Any suggestions please, I am tearing my hair out
Many thanks
I am guessing if talktalk say they can see your router logged in you
have done that bit ok
For the moment keep norton off, be careful because sometimes
it's still running when you think you have closed it, ideally you want to
open the configuration page and turn off the "firewall"
then try to open a webpage, if it works its a firewall blocking issue
if not try these steps
Open internet explorer
Click "Tools" drop down menu
select internet options
then connections tab
put a dot in "never dial a connection" ( if steps don't work put this back to where it was after, to allow the usb modem to autoconect)
click apply
Now click lan settings button
ensure no boxes are ticked click ok then ok again
close internet explorer down and reopen and check if you
can browse
if thats not worked, try this and post back the results
click start menu
click run
type "CMD" in run bar and press enter
in the black window type "ipconfig" press enter
write down the results
then type "ping bbc.co.uk" press enter
write down results
close the window and post info back here0 -
no need for what seems a nasty sarcastic reply
I suggest you ask colaa1 to put back any changes
she has made to the computer, and speak to a pc
engineer who can set the new router up for
her if its proving to problematic
If your using windows xp or vista you can always
use the "system restore" function in system tools folder
to roll the computer back to a earlier point
if all else fails put the usb modem back on and
run the setup on the disc that came with it again
I really needed the info I asked colaa1 to write down
to help you further.0 -
ok no problem guess it's easy to misunderstand people on a internet
forum
If its not working after a system restore to a earlier date
, are maybe the connections not connected quite right?0 -
If packets are going but not coming back then something is blocking the return, I'm guessing at norton here as software firewalls can do that if not configured correctly or if their rule tables corrupt.0

Well after many many hours, I will not bore you anymore with the nightmare that I have had lol
I changed the router to a talk talk one, which is working fine and passed the assessment. whoa whoa!!!!!
I still have the problem with Norton as it was removed from my PC on the advice of a 'friend'.
I do not have the CD and it was Norton Internet Security package, I have got windows firewall switched on, but no virus protection, I really would like to be able to get Norton back, but it is not showing anywhere all I keep getting is something about cccommon not found.
Any ideas?
Once again, I would like to say how grateful I am for all the help I have received from you Guys on here.
Now all I have to do is sort this out with a little help lol
avg anti virus is free and spyware doctor - both should give enough coverage as anything else you could pay for apparently0 -

Do you guys tend to get a reply straight away as to whether you have passed the technical test? Is that on screen as soon as you have sent or by email? Or even by phone?
I sent mine after being told I had failed straight away on screen by pc. I tried again Friday by laptop and it returned to the begin again screen. Not saying whther it had passed and no email. What am I to expect from here??
Anyone have a phone number or an email address for the technical people/test bit? These live help chapesses are useless.0 -
can you not download norton again from their site - surely they have a record of that and your payment details? - i would email them if i were you
after the assessment i had invite to telephone meeting - couple of days i think0 -
I applied for this, got the HR phonecall and passed that etc. It sounded really good to me and I was raring to go. You do need broadband though - BUT - if you have a WIRELESS connection the PC will fail the test. I didn't continue with it because my PC is in another part of the house to where my BB router is so I didn't much fancy plugging and unplugging cables every day and running them through the house!0
