Recently I found a share certificate that I had forgetten about. The shares are with QXL.com. As i remember Qxl merged with Ricardo. Are these shares still vaild or will they have been written off or something?
Thanks.0 -
I noticed on iii if you try to deal in BP shares it will bring up the american quoted ones. You need to type BP then a . after or BP. to get the london ones, theres no help for things like that though you can always email them.

You recommended Tesco in another thread and been looking into them, do you think they are a better buy than Vodaphone or any similar company?0 -
Just my opinion, my point was really that comparatively the bigger stocks for risk to price dont compare badly in my view and with big dividends in a few cases.
Vodafone has a nice dividend and its also a kind of utility. I got telefonica instead as I thought it was better value and with expanding prospects.
VOD is selling off various holdings for some reason, they had alot of debt apparently. VOD were great at 110p all the way to 130 even, above that I dont know exactly but seems fairly solid still, you have to decide for yourself.
Is it better then Tesco is not really fair because they arent really the same sector even. If I had to decide absolutely then Tesco is more diversified and apparently more dynamic.
Ive not done nearly enough research on either and you'd be better off trying google finance and reading articles there and so on
I dont hold alot of tesco, they dont move much maybe their dividend will go up a bit. If I was buying at the bottom but was wary then I'd maybe buy tesco or similar. In March 6th 2009 when markets were still plumenting, I got standard life at 133p, that was a bargain and all these big companies really shouldnt fall (again) but they could out of fearMon 13th September UK GREENE KING PLC Full year 2010 Dividend payment date - proposed ASTRAZENECA PLC Interim 2010 Dividend payment date Tue 14th September UK ASHMORE GROUP Full year 2010 Preliminary results FRESNILLO PLC Interim 2010 Dividend payment date DAVID S. nice recovery, at resistance now

Great bull ride up, buy at the bottom of the two lines not the top and we are closer to the top now which because vod is so massive, makes me more apprehensive of the ft100 in general0 -

I agree Vodaphone is probably at the top end of its value and also looking to make short term gains on sp and not just dividends!
Seriously considering BP as well for immediate entry, they are due to announce when dividends will start being repaid maybe Q4'10 or Q1 11, just the announcement will cause the sp to rise to 470p+, obviously there is some risk that the oil spill costs could be greater but tht seems to have died down.
interesting news piece

Obviously BP took a big hit on the spill news but news today from OilVoice shows BP restarted its relief well drilling operations which is positive. But its Q3 results have been delayed. BP insists the delay is not realted to further cleanup liabilities. IMO its more likely to do with blame shifting... in particular to Halliburton. Its also on my watch list so it'll be interesting to see where this goes.0

BP is a very newsy type stock and maybe discounted too much because of that, obviously its unpopular with good reason. I just view it as a good safe haven away from the larger problems in the economy, its already beat up and other stocks are generally not so much.
I doubt they pay a dividend this year and really not certain when or if they recover. Its a company bigger then many countries so could easily be years or a decade to recover a real accurate valuation and its still possible that wont be good newsBP cited for safety lapses in North Sea
All but one of BP’s five North Sea installations inspected in 2009 were cited for failure to comply with emergency regulations on oil spills, raising questions about the company’s ability to manage a disaster in the area.
