Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask my girlfriend to pay me?

I'm a builder and my girlfriend buys old houses to do up. She expects me to help out for free, simply because I'm her boyfriend - am I wrong to ask for payment for the work I do?
Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as contributions are often emailed in or suggested in person. They are intended to be enjoyed as a point of debate and discussed at face value.

If not then you should certainly share in the profit after expenses...0

I've heard of friends with benefits before.........0

Now from that title I was expecting a completely different scenario. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I fix computers for a living and when my girlfriend asks me to fix her laptop I do it and wouldn't dream of charging but if she started buying broken laptops with the intention of me fixing them so she could sell them on then I'd expect a cut of her profits for sure. Same applies here. You're doing most of the hard work afterall.0

Look on the nookie received as a payment in kind!0

Ask for a cut of the profits - or charge her a (discounted?) hourly rate for your work.0

You're in business as a builder. Her business is doing up houses. If you're working on her property you are losing out on income and her profit will go up as her expenses are less if you don't charge.
IMHO your dilemma is: do I bill her or do we join our businesses (and share profits).0 -
If it is her business and you do not share income then yes.
If you share income then maybe not.0 -
As it is a business then yes you either charge hourly rate or get an agreed cut of the profits.
Whilst you are working on her houses you are not doing your own paid work, so you are loosing out.Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles
