Does that not mean that the cost of living falls by 1.2% therefore resulting in equilibrium.
I have not had a pay rise in 4 years, so I would be happy with a 1.2% rise in my income!0 -
The employed who are stumping up their cash week in week out to pay for the benefits aren't getting rises so why should everyone else?0

What a ridiculous headline. Inflation falls so people "suffer" because they're only getting inflation increases? Would they all be better off with inflation at 5% and benefits rising at 5%?0

Because people on benefits are receiving the MINIMUM required to live on. As soon as your wage falls below the MINIMUM level required to live on you will also be entitled to benefits.
Many benefits are no longer linked to inflation so people on the margins of society are being pushed further into destitution as inflation rises. So low inflation is a good thing for those on low incomes that aren't linked to inflation.
And MSE really should understand inflation better than to come up with a headline as absurd as that.0 -

People on low income experience a different inflation than people on more average ones.
Energy and food prices rising faster than inflation means those on lowest incomes - including benefits - mean that they are in fact going backwards, not standing still.0 -

Secondly - it's lower food and energy prices which have caused inflation to go down, see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-29611742 so they aren't rising faster, they are the items which are lowering the inflation rate!0 -
its a possibility that by next april inflation could be as low as 0.8% making a 1.2% inc seem adequate but not generous0
