    ❄❄ Let It Snow ❄❄ :: Christmas 2012 Chatter Thread 29th Apr 12 at 2:18 PM

ETA: Hi all To save confusion, this is just a thread to discuss general christmas natterings and to whip up festive excitement as there are loads of us who just want to chat all year round about Christmas and don't want to fill the forum up with Christmas threads and annoy everyone else when it's only May All Festive discussion for crafts, organising and saving money are available in this forum

I was searching for a pre-existing thread that would cover nattering about general Christmas-stuff but couldn't find one and didn't want to step on crafty peoples footsteps. I tend to get a little obsessed with all things Christmas

WLTM: Other Christmas obsessed people to
    share ideas, gossip, present suggestions
and all manner of other Christmas musings
    .

Generally a little Christmas crazy and since January I've been gradually buying presents and other little bits to try and make this Christmas fantastic again (same excuse as last year This year has been awful already and it's only April/May!!)

The only people still to buy for are:
    Mum
    Grandad
    My babies (2 dogs & parrot )
    Brothers BIL
    Brothers FIL
    Brothers SIL's dog (I know, I know)
3 neighbours dogs and 1 neighbours cats
    2 neighbours present
    1 friends dog

The friends/neighbours dogs and/or cats are easy, they'll be a squeaky toy or packet of treats each.

Grandad will likely be some clothing as he tends to stain/rip/ruin everything magically and other Man Utd related bits and pieces like toothbrushes/keyrings/flannels etc. Presents need to be practical for him as otherwise they're untouched and ignored due to his dementia.

My dogs/parrot: Treats and toys and prob a new blanket each.

Mum: She never wants anything big so she gets lots and lots of little things that she wants/needs.

Neighbours present: Usually a large box of chocs from Thorntons when they do the 5 for 20 offer. Keep the others as emergency presents and 1 to open and leave for anyone who wants one on Christmas Eve.

Brothers FIL and BIL. These are a little more tricky. Probably something whisky related for the FIL but I'm still pondering over the BIL...It'll come to me

I've also bought some little die cut boxes to turn into my mums advent calendar. They're not huge so I have allowed myself to place gift cards in the box with 'see present #5' for example. Due to the small size of the box I've been a little lazy and got quite a few jewellery ideas. Being a little more inventive now

We have always wanted to go to the panto so have that booked as part of the advent calendar. If you can book this early I highly recommend it! Admittedly our town is a little quiet place and they haven't announced who it is who it is in it yet - but they have opened tickets. Have front row tickets because of it and noone else has booked anywhere for my date yet according to the seat planner. Christmas Eve and Boxing Day also have front row and everywhere else available too so it's well worth going ahead

I have to admit that this is the absolute earliest I've been planning and I'm really happy with how it's going and I'm still managing to save at least a tenner a week and not touching it to get all these extra bits so - all being well - Christmas should be fab

I'm jealous of everyone who can make beautiful crafty things, I'm far too clumsy to be that co-ordinated and neat It was hard enough gluing the boxes together for the advent calendar

Roll on December Happy Christmas, all

I feel very unChristmassy. I am not fed up in anyway at all. Just doesn't feel like it is only 2 weeks away.

Even watching Christmas films hasn't helped.

But even worse, it doesn't seem to bother me.

In fact I am looking forward to January. I love January. It is a new beginning, and I get to use my new note pads, and start new lists.

I think because I have done everything (Except the dreaded wrapping) I feel a little lost.

But then reading everyone else's posts, we have all become the most unChristmassy Christmas Freaks I have ever met.

Thank you all for the well wishes just got back from mums (she lives 30 mile away) and she seems a lot stronger today. My brother recently moved back home after his own relationship broke so at least they're together & supporting each other. Love the idea of getting kids to choose a gift for dad I don't want to cut him out of our lives but at mo I don't want to see or talk to him so that's a perfect solution.
Looking very Christmassy in our little village now & I can finally smile again & hopefully get some sleep tonight.
Thanks also for all the ideas re dd & Santa I had forgotten all about our incident & she hasn't mentioned anymore doubts so hopefully we can keep the magic alive a few more years x

    Hello everyone

Just popping in quickly between finishing off the Christmas cards and making dinner before the X Factor (and glugging a bit of wine )

I spotted this guide to making your own snow globe on the Seasalt website and immediately thought of you lot

Seasalt also have free delivery until midnight tomorrow and they have their lovely jute bags at two for 6 - a fab alternative to baskets when making hampers Quite a few of the Christmassy bags have sold out now but they seem to have added a couple of new designs, plus I think a couple of their "normal" designs would work too:

(And no, I do not work for Seasalt, I just love their jute bags and always buy more when I am down in Cornwall )

    Evening all.

Had a lovely day / evening with the OH today. Is it me, or is it romantic when your OH's spend the day with you, Showering you with love and affection whilst you spend the day together putting decorations up, Dressing the tree & wrapping some of the presents? Okay....Passing the bucket around now!!

Somehow we seemed to have had the most perfect day.
For me to get some shocking news...

(Hope you dont mind me off-loading here. Just you guys seem so understanding...Seems recently all ive done is moan...)

My mum called me today, She's been told that my younger brother (18) nearly 19, Has decided to just quit the armed forces. So now hes completely job less, Living back with my mum, In a very depressed angry state. This isn't great for my mum considering she's suffering with clinical depression. Today, My brother has announced he's got his girlfriend pregnant. Worst of all, Both are jobless, Homeless (Meaning they are still stayng at parents) & Brother has just got a 400 amount limited addition car he's expecting mum to help pay for...

Now normally i would say they are good / hardowrking young'ens, But recently they seem to have lost their drive and expect their parents, Siblins to do everything for them. With a baby now on the way this has understandly killed my mothers health progress. I dont quite know why im posting this...Maybe for understanding, rant, Support but felt the need to get this off my chest

Anyways, I will be spending my time catching up on the thread then i might dare to take some pictures of my decs & tree..Just worried mine will look rubbish compared to all yours!
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy

arggg I am officially a Christmas Wuss!!!!

Took the boys to a semi-local school tonight where they had a lighting the tree ceremony including a brass band playing carols and an visit from Santa.

Any I had to choke back tears...............WHY WHY???

WHY as soon as Santa turned up did I feel like I wanted to cry??? I can only assume it is something in my brain being excited for my kids??? perhaps it was the community feel??

It was really nice - donations only no stalls, nothing to try and persuade you to part with any money. Your kids could go and talk to Santa (who gave them token sweets - just small haribo for toddlers, older kids got a bag of pic n mix, but they were over the moon) Obviously could take your own photos. Plus they gave every child a free bag of "reindeer food" and told them all about sprinkling it on Christmas Eve (almost brought me to tears again).
Has been censored by the MSE Police.... shhhh don't let them know I'm here.

    The X Factor is over

I have never watched it, and have no idea who was in it or who won.
But I am so glad it is over. People look at you like you are a zombie when you say you don't watch it, and I was getting fed up of hearing about it.
Hopefully now ITV will put something decent on of a weekend.

Sorry to any X Factor lovers .

I have the same issue with her with the ribbon , I can't put anything under the tree with ribbon on as she chews it up (shes 5!) and if she sees me wrapping presents she will pounce on the ribbon and try and run off with the reel!

Just realised how much I have left to do in the two weekends we have left now!!! Week days are out due to work and then the gym after work, by the time we are home and had tea its ready for showers / bed

Next weekend I have to make truffles and fudge for OH to give to managers in work, Lord of the Rings tickets have been booked for Saturday afternoon followed by dinner also already booked, Sunday I have to make 7 choc slabs, make edit box and wrap 7 personalised dvd slideshows (all completely different) and about 16 choc spoons oh and also fit a hair cut each into there (thankfully its a friend who has just qualified and set up a business so she can come here)

It also my sisters birthday on Thursday this week and my mum suggested our annual girly movie night on Friday this week too! Ive also to fit in a shopping trip with mum!

Then the following weekend I have 3 batches of chocolate truffles (120 truffle balls in total ) and 6 batches of fudge to make, Sunday evening we are out to see snow patrol and Im working on Monday so again time is very limited.

in the middle of that Ive to find time to dismantle, take off price tags, wrap some gifts and re-pack 7 hampers, still a list of things to buy, sisters birthday gift to finish then my nieces birthday gift to make (shes getting a mint areo ball sweet tree her birthdays 27th) and just to top it off havent even started getting secret santa for work which is due 19th December the latest!! Still food stuff to buy too.

And after all this OH wants to know what Im worrying about!!! I cant see me getting much sleep these next 2 weekends lol
Life is what you make it.

    Huge hugs Pinknfluffy xx

Chickywiggle, I also cry at these type of things. I was at a Christmas party with the kids today and had to choke back the tears when we seen Santa coming. I find it all emotional, linking back to my own childhood and my kids excitement and innocence.

OMO, I'm soooo glad too. I havnt watched one episode of it either, but on fb it's all my friends are talking about it and it's doing my head in. X

Well my idea of selling more on fb wasn't that successful. I did make a few sales, but not as much as I wanted. I still have a couple of weeks for folk to buy it, but after spending so much on stock I wanted to see something back.
There some good bargains if anyone fancies a look? I know I can't link my fb page here, but my name is Applepieandcustard designs, if you fancy having a nose of maybe a wee share? Xx

God help me when we go on our polar express train ride...even the trailer on the website made me cry..there really is no hope for me!

But I agree, I think its just because christmas is so magical for our children, and its all the love that you put in, just to see the look on their little faces

Ive just made my 2 a stocking each with a felt gift tag with theor names on...cant wait to give it to them and see their faces!

    Hi all,

Sorry some of you are having family problems - I don't know why but things always seem to flare up round this time of year - well they do in my family anyway!

I must admit I'm not feeling as Christmassy as I wanted to. I've been out carolling in a shopping centre today with my choir, then came home and watched Elf on tv, plus have dealing with some promotion bits for my Christmas book which is out on Friday - so really I should be in the most xmassy mood ever but it's not really happening. I've enjoyed all the things, it just doesn't really seem like it's going to be Christmas in just over two weeks. Ah well, hopefully I will start feeling more into it as the week goes on.

Im really annoyed as the spy watch Santa is bringing DS is 24.99 at toys r us, the cheapest anywhere! (39.99 everywhere else) but no stock online and they said it wont be in stock for another 8 weeks! None in store either except for over 250 miles away and one 13 miles away which would be fine except for its in Bayswater which is Central London so a pain in the bum to get to! Free delivery online (no minimum spend until midnight tuesday) plus a 5 wys 30 code (on hukd) so could have got a great bargain! Also decided not to get DS the Skylanders starter pack as we dont have the money (he has enough presents really so trying not to feel too guilty!) and other people have managed to get 20 and even 98p ones from Morrisons, none in any near me. Just feeling sorry for myself at missing out on bargains! Feel really sick too and having cold flushes so think Id better just go to bed and hopefully wake up not feling so blah!

Oh plus DS really wants the Red Power Rangers switch head figure but the only place that has it (except Amazon at over 3 times Argos' price!) is Argos but its an online exclusive and theres no guarantee on colour. It would be from MIL/FIL so cant be faffing around with ordering on the offchance we get red (they have no knowledge of computers at all and would not really want to order online at all let alone order when it might not be the right one lol) and I cant find it anywhere else not even ebay! Argh!

    Thanks OMO xx

Just had a look moneysavingmumofone and there is none near me in Aberdeenshire, the nearest is Carlisle! Looks good as well.

DD(7) has just came into my room to tell me she felt sick and projectile vomited over my bed and all the way along the floor to the bathroom! Why she didn't just go straight to the bathroom, next to her room, I don't know.

She's showered and it's all cleaned up, just sitting watching Nick Jr with her to make sure she isn't going to be sick again. She doesn't want to be sick in her bed. So that will he her off for at least 2 days, hope it's not a bug and just too much Christmas party food.

As for me I finally did some Christmas shopping yesterday ....... Even for me it,s a late start. I,m working Christmas day and for the first time in years I won,t be balancing working with fitting in cooking Christmas dinner as the new BF is cooking for me and DS ......and possibly with unexpected lodger who arrived this week fleeing domestic violence joining us too. Thankfully he,s a good cook and is really excited about giving us an amazing day........ Suddenly I feel Chrismassy and the tree is going up today !
