6 onoins peeled and in the simmer and I am in floods of tears!!!
Anybody have any great ways to help the the onion tears cos I think I may be doing this quite a bit now!!

invest in a pair of swimming goggles!
When I made it last week I managed to squirt myself in the eye with ginger as I peeled it
I wonder if CQ has public liability insurance? :rolleyes:Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Tip 1 - invest in a food processor to do bulk onion chopping (keep the lid on until last possible moment). Toss aforementioned (now chopped) onions across kitchen to land in pan and slam lid on firmly and quickly!
Tip 2 - give ingredients to CQ to make up batch loads of curry sauces for you and collect when required.
Tip 3 - no food processor? No good at tossing in the kitchen? Live too far from CQ? Order a take away.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Curry Queen
I was watching a tv cooking show ( might have been Ready,Steady Cook) and the chef warned the men who had been cutting chillies not to go to the loo without being sure they had washed their hands.
I will let you all guess why!"This site is addictive!"

When I am chopping onions and have contact lenses in - no tears, but with glasses - eyes streaming! Anyone know why?
Also chewing a matchstick is supposed to help, not found any benefit.

Tried my first curry sauce today. At the cooking onion, garlic and ginger stage the kitchen did pong a bit (well a lot actually). Even when all the other ingredients were added and I had skimmed off the scum I was still doubtfull. Kept looking for steps that I might have missed out. The fact that there was no sugar to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes and the strong taste of the onion mixture, and a curry sauce that had no chilli in it!!! It all seemed a bit strange! I did add a spoonfull of chilli powder at the tomato sauce stage.
Made myself a version of the korma, and made the wife and kids fish and chips (just in case). Needn't have worried, it was lovely. Made six portions for further curries which are now safely tucked up in the freezer. A bit more practice and I may even share some with the rest of the family :rotfl:
Thanks Curry Queen :THumans only use around forty percent of their brains capacity. Imagine what we could achieve if we used the other seventy percent!0 -

Yes! that is very true, and doesn't only apply to men either!!!
Oh, and merely washing your hands won't get rid of the lethal effect and it can actually take up to 8 hours before your hands are safe to touch certain sensitive places again"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
