A tip I was taught at catering college was to chop the root end off at the last minute. Is quite easy to do if you chop the onion in half around the middle you can prep as much without cutting off the root.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0

The sauce you're making is a base sauce with which to then make your particular desired curries from! All the necessary spices such as chilli et al are added later when you make the actual curry"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Also chewing a matchstick is supposed to help, not found any benefit.

Something to do with the lenses forming a physical barrier in front of your eye, I think. Although given that contacts generally do not cover the entire exposed bit of eye, I'm not sure about it.
I found out about the chilli thing still having an effect after washing your hands the hard way! Lots of 'ouch ouch ouch' around the kitchen! :doh:0 -
Best tip for peeling onions: Peel them beside the sink with the cold tap running ona trickle. I have no idea why this works, but it does. Let me know if it works for you.0

I tend to hold big deeps breaths and chop! chop! chop! before you run out of the breath!!!
I know its sound funny.
But I was told onions contains some sort of gas that causes all the water-works, as soon as you peel and cut into it the gas is released.
if breathed in, you would the stinging senssation in your eyes.
If this all makes sense.
To me it works wonders!0
