Smelly Dog!!

I'm not sure of the best forum to post this, so please move if it's not appropriate here!

My collie has a fetish for rolling in smelly things! If it's something like horse poo, I can see it and wash it off, but sometimes he's rolling and there's just the smell left on him. I am telling him "no" when he does it, but it's hard to keep an eye on him every minute of a walk, especially when I have another dog and children with me.

Can you buy anything like Febreeze that is designed for use on pets coats?

I do bath him occasionally, but he hates going in the bath so it's a right headache to do, and normally involves both the bathroom and me getting a soaking! I also read that you shouldn't give dogs frequent baths as it interfers with natural oils in their fur that keep them waterproof.
Here I go again on my own....

there isn't really a 'right' place for pet posts at the moment, so it depends on the query,
as so many Old Stylers have mentioned their pets I wonder if I could move it to Old Style where you should get some great tips icon7.gif

you can buy 'dry shampoo' which has a pleasant smell, and gives good shine. I think my mum gets it in sainsburys. We don't bother, we just wipe her over with baby wipes.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Thanks - will look for the dry shampoo next time I'm shopping.

Have used the hose before, but he doesn't like it!

Not really of any help but when I was a kid we had a beagle and this was his favourite past time..we were sure it was like some kind of dog perfume! My Mum knew though which smell was which... fox poo (which is really bad), hedgehog poo, dead fish... all those kinds of things... bless her! :D
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!
  • I think Ive heard somewhere that tomato sauce on the offending area works well, easy to hand untill you next go shopping.
  • My dog loves to roll in things she shouldn't as well!!! Pets at Home sell a deo spray with natural oils that you can spray on your dog. If I've got time I prefer to give my dog a quick bath in the garden with a bucket of warm water, a jug for pouring and some Boots Baby Shampoo. It's cheaper than dog shampoo, cleans really well, doesn't dry out their skin or fur and best of all if it accidentally splashes in their eyes it doesn't hurt them! Best of luck Louise
