Haven't looked at it myself but I believe this information is compiled in
    https://www.matthewsguide.co.uk

You have to pay £2.99 to subscribe.
There is a £4.99 offer on a legal protection policy ("worth" £20).
They also have some cashback offers.

Note I have no idea of the quality of the site or the policy so do your own research, but several people have thanked me in the past about this so I guess it's been useful for some.

Our direct line policy quotes a cancellation fee of pro-rata + 1 month. We cancelled after 3 weeks (sold the car) and they only charged us pro-rata.

Now that isn't very money saving is it lisyloo? :p Thanks for your input and if people wish to sign up to that site it's their decision. I'm just trying to make information available for free so us consumers can make informed decisions before signing up to a contract.

    Well it depends.
I'd agree with you and trawl the net and get the info for free
But if you either don't have the time (new baby for example) then it might be moneysaving for you.
Also some people can earn more than £2.99 in the time it might take them to get the information on the net.

But good on you for doing it.
I wasn't knocking you, just providing an alternative for some that might be helpful.
I applaud your efforts and personally I would do the same (that's why I've never personally paid for the guide).

My insurance is coming up for renewal soon and last week I received a nice letter from Tesco saying that they would automatically take the premium for next years cover using the card details I supplied last year.

It was followed by a letter 2 days later telling me that there was a mistake in the renewal letter and the cancellation fee is 1 months premium + £10.

Funnily enough I don't remember checking any boxes to allow repeat payments to be taken from my card.

You probably don't remember reading it but you probably ticked a box to accept some "terms & conditions" that you didn't read.
That's not a criticism - I do it all the time as I don't have time to read all the associated small print.

The chances are that it was buried in there somewhere and you ticked the box and didn't read it.

For balance there are a few people on these boards who got into trouble when their insurance wasn't renewed and they forgot, so some would say that automatic renewal is a valuable service.
Others would say it's a cynical move.
