If we get evicted from a house can we never go back there again?

Just a quick question really.
If we get evicted from a property by the bailiff does this mean we can never go back there ever again? If we do what happens?
We are being evicted from my mothers house next week, she has not got a buyer so I wanted to keep the cats there for now in the shed outside but one of them has diabetes and I need to keep her medication in a fridge which means it has to be kept in the house. So I would have to go into the house to get it. I am guessing I am not allowed a key so would it be OK if I arrange for my sister to meet me there and let me in.
Would I get in trouble for that do you think? I am just a bit worried as we've got to leave in 3 weeks time and this only just dawned on me this morning about the medication. It sounds a stupid thing to ask but does anyone know?
What about us leaving the larger bits of furniture here (fridge, freezer and wardrobes?) are we allowed to do that (I am sure mum will let us) but I am scared of getting in trouble.
Thanks.

im pretty certain that the date they give you is the last and final date you have access to the premises, as soon as the keys are handed over, that property is no longer yours, hugs x
im a little confused at you mentioning your sister, is she keeping a key or is it your family getting you evicted?0 -
Yes emmy, this is what makes this more complicated - the house is my mothers, she is trying to sell it but we have to be evicted by the bailiff before the council will help us. We do not have anywhere else to go.
So, it is the family house, my mother lives elsewhere and we rented this place from her. I am just worried that I might get in trouble if I come back here again once the bailiff turfs us out. I am just confused, I know I can leave my things and then arrange to meet the landlord to get them back. But I was not sure if it meant I could never come back here again. I wondered if it was OK if my sister let me in? I'd have to arrange to meet her here on a daily basis I guess.
It was not a problem until I thought about the medication to be honest, I was going to drop the kids at school and come up the road, feed the cats for the day and make sure they were OK but now I have realised that I need somewhere cold to keep her injections. We are going to be in a hostel. Mum does not even have a sniff of a buyer and the house is going to be empty so I wanted to keep the cats in their familiar surroundings for now, the weather is warm anyway.
Thanks0 -
oh i see lol, well in that case im pretty sure you can get back into the premises again as long as its agreed by your mum and sister x0

Hi blue_monkey,
I suspect if the landlord (your mum) gives a key to your sister, then your sister could let you in.
As for the larger items of furniture, the Shelter website indicates that bailiffs won't remove any belongings unless the court order specifically states that they will. All belongings that are left will be locked inside, so theoretically you could go back and get them at a later date, with your mum's permission.
How are things? I remember your thread from a while back. Can't be easy for you and the family at the moment.0 -
I get this situation now, you can't afford private rented accomodation but for last X years have been living in your mums house paying reduced rent etc.
Now... you cant get a council house unless you are homeless.
Got ya....0 -
Hi, thanks for clearing that up with me. OK, that is fine then, I was worried that I would never be able to get back in. To be honest I think she will give me a key as then I'll be able to check on things while she is here - but I am not risking getting in trouble with anyone. I've got rid of all of my cats but 2 (sucker for a hard luck story, LOL) but she has diabetes and they will put her down if I take her to the home as she is 'ill'. So I want to try all I can to ensure that this does not happen. I've also kept one other cat as a companion for her, but it was just giving her the medication each day worried me.
Ah well, I will see what happens but with everything going on I am worried about getting in trouble with the courts and bailiffs as I've never ever done anything 'anughty' all this court stuff and offical things scare thelife out of me, LOL!! I think I will get my sister to meet me here each day and let me in to get the injection and keep the fridge here too.
Neas, yes, kind of. It's a long story, I am sure I have tol you before but it is mums house, she is selling, she lives elsewhere and we have lived here for 10 years. Not so much reduced rent but we have been rebuilding the house for her an we pay everything, mortgage, bills, insurances, etc... so the house is totally our responsibility - or was - so it is not a usual landlord/tenant relationship. She was left the house by my dad who paid no child support, at the time she refused to get rid of it even though she could not afford to keep it, she had no insurance (she did not realise she needed it) and the house flooded (burst pipe) and was left to rot. I was here, got married and hubby who is very DIY handy moved in and we came to an agreement with my mum that we would help her do the place up and get rid of the damp so we put in a new kitchen, bathroom, redecortated, everything really - we asked several times about going but she made us feel guilty for wanting to go as she could not afford the house and it was 'perfect for all of us' and so that is how we got stuck here really. In this time prices have risen so far in rents, plus with us having the children, that we can't afford anything else privately. We are not 'homeless' until a court tells us we are. And on 23rd May the bailiff will come and change the locks and remove us. And now we are nearly there. We are off to the hostel and everything else is in order it was just this morning I realised that I needed somewhere to store the cats medicine and hit a flaw in all of my plans, LOL. It is not about getting a council house, anyone can if they have the right number of 'points' but we don't have anywhere to go and there are no council houses available anyway. So this is why we are going to the hostel. This is what we talked about before, the LA want you to be bringing home 3 times the rent and that is £2,700 for the cheapest house we have seen at £900 a month, without that and a clean rating you are pretty much stuffed right now.0 -
Hi everyone,
I am so excited I am nearly in tears but.... the list is out and there are 5 3 bed properties all in areas where we will be safe. We can choose 3. Tonight we are off for a drive before visting the MP to choose which ones are best. Surely we must get SOMETHING before being evicted! Please keep everything crossed for us. I will be back tonight or tomorrow morning to let you know it went with the MP.

Yeeeehaaaa.
Fantastic news. Does this mean that you have the choice of 3 places, and that you'd definitely get one of them?
Would be fantastic if you could just leave your old place and move straight into one of these houses.
Am really pleased for you. :beer:0 -
Fingers crossed for you BMWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Good news about the list.
My only concern with you visiting your cats and the fridge is "big brother". If the council got to hear that you could go back and for to the house from which you've been evicted, they could accuse you and your mother of concocting this whole eviction to get council housing.
I'm not saying you are, but just that one net-curtain-twitching neighbour could give the council an excuse not to house you.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
