Sorry OT (kind of) but need to talk........

Sorry for this, but really need to talk and not sure where to turn.
Don't even know where to start, my brother has gone missing! We now know left home (still lives with my parent) on Monday morning at 7am on the pretense that he was going to work. My mam dropped him at the metro station so he could get a train to where he meets his friend. He then sent a text to his work colleague to tell him that he wasn't going back to work. That is the last that anybody has seen or heard of him.
He has a history of mental health issues and suffered a breakdown about 4 years ago but due to him not being able to admit that he needed help and sticking to a care plan he never fully recovered.
He has asked me odd questions about my BR in the past and I discovered last night (by going through all his unopened post to try to find clues) that he has in excess of £50k of unsecured debt. All of the various companies are chasing him as he is behind in all payments which is hardly surprising as he hasn't been able to hold down a job for years due to his mental state. He's worked the odd month here and there but nothing of any long standing.
We don't think that he has any money, he had £4.50 that we know of. He hasn't taken his passport with him or phone charger. We've been unable to contact him by phone (its constantly turned off), he's got very few clothes with him but know he did take an extra coat because it was cold on Monday morning (we had snow).
He was in the marines for 8/9 years so we know that he has survival training which will hopefully help him cope. We reported him missing to the police last night and they are checking out his bank account, employers and CCTV today.
Sorry I've rambled on, I know there's nothing anybody can do and it's probably just going to be a waiting game but I cant focus on anything and feel so helpless. The police keep saying 'don't worry, we'll find him' but quite honestly I keep thinking of all the people that just 'disappear' every year and wonder if he's going to be another statistic.

Oh Red, i'm so sorry for you all. You must be going through hell!
Have you called ALL his friends? do the police have any news yet on his bank account etc?
We all know just how stressful money problems are. Hopefully, he's just taking some breathing time to get himself together,
Please keep us updated on this.
Thoughts and prays are with youThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

Are there any particular areas, moors, seaside, that he might gravitate to?
Does he have any friends he may have gone to stay with?
Did he use the internet? Was he a member of any chatrooms? Did he have a MH worker or friend whom he could link in with?
Have you asked your local doctors if he had had any recent appointments?
I know you've probably tried all these things but I'm just trying to think of things that might give a clue about where he may have headed for. xxDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I know the police can also check re his national insurance number to see if he has made any claim for any benefits, they can locate which benefit office the claim was made from also. This may not be useful now but if he hasn't returned the a few weeks then this may be an option to explore.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Thanks for the kind words
Triker - I contacted missing persons earlier this morning and they are going to negotiate with the police to help with publicity.
BLTN - no news yet from the police. unfortunately since he had the breakdown he has become a bit of a loner but we have contacted all friends and family that we can think of (even past g/f etc) so everybody is on full alertBSC Member 59 - AD 29th March 2008

OH went missing twice - once last October and again in Feb this year so I can understand how you feel. I was lucky enough that we had word from him within a week on both occasions so I cannot really help much on the practical side.
Other than Big Hugs, my thoughts are with you and yours today.

Are there any particular areas, moors, seaside, that he might gravitate to? Not that we can think of, hopefully the CCTV footage will give us some idea of where about he was heading.
Does he have any friends he may have gone to stay with? Nope, at least none that we know that we havent already contacted.
Did he use the internet? Was he a member of any chatrooms? Did he have a MH worker or friend whom he could link in with? Have you asked your local doctors if he had had any recent appointments? Yeah he has a laptop that he is very secretive over, we tried to get into it last night but it is password protected. We've contacted docs and MH unit but neither have heard from him.
I know you've probably tried all these things but I'm just trying to think of things that might give a clue about where he may have headed for. xx
Thanks for the tips, I appreciate anythingBSC Member 59 - AD 29th March 2008

Hi Red.
Sorry to hear this You and the family must be so worried.
You've had some excellent suggestions and support already.
The only thing that leaps to mind is do you have any contact details for any of his ex military colleagues that he might still be in contact with? It's a long shot, but the only person who I know who done something similar was ex SAS and was eventually discovered to be staying with an ex comrade. I suppose he saw them as someone safe in the face of adversity.
Just a thought anyway.
