Searching site with Firefox

I hate Internet Explorer.
I'll repeat that to show how strongly I feel.
I hate Internet Explorer.

I hate it as a user, I hate it as a web designer, I just hate it.

I use firefox when browsing the internet as a user but when I try and use the search on this site with firefox it always finds no results for my searches. When I do the same search with Internet Explorer it works just fine.

Am I doing somthing wrong or is the search setup in such a way that it won't work with firefox?

I just used the "search this thread" tool at the top of your post there... typed in firefox... and got these posts listed.

Does your set-up get a result on such a simple search?

You'll probably find that its not Firefox thats the problem, more the search that has problems on occasions. Try using advanced search and always use lower case and see if that helps.

I've never had any probs with Firefox until recently ( have to add tho, I love firefox and virtually never use IE)

however just recently when I try to search a thread the box appears but it's cut off so theres no "GO" button so i can't use it, I have to try searching the whole site

Both simple and advanced searches all work just fine for me in firefox. I have to add that I have no extensions loaded that perform other search functions and which might conceivably conflict with the basic set-up.

Edit: As far as I can see if you get a result in IE you should get one with firefox. I've just run a search in both and got exactly the same results back.

    how very strange.

Nothing I try seems to sort it. I have several extensions installed on my copy of firefox 1.0.6 but nothing search related.

I tried searching the word 'firefox' and recieved no results. I searched it using IE and got all the correct results.

Guess I will just have to us IE to search this site. Or I'll dust off my copy of netscape and use that!

Thanks for the replies people, I will just stay confused I suppose.

You could try working through your extensions - most of them have, in the right click context menu (off Tools >> Extensions) the option to disable (rather than uninstall)...

..tedious, I know, but there must be an answer somewhere... :)

If you mean the forum search from the search dropdown (Next to Quick Links) then that only works with lower-case letters.

But if you mean the search at the very to of the page - to search the main site - that hasn't worked with Firefox in ages.

I made a small bookmarklet to deal with this ages ago. I also made a search plugin and made the code for a Quick Search but I've lost both of them.

<duh> I never thought of using the one at the top of the page! :) I always use the one next to quick links and then click on advanced.

I was indeed talking about the main site search at the top. So it doesn't work with firefox? Tut tut.

I look forward to your post.
