The purpose of this poll is obtain a clear understanding of the "Competitions Time" users opinions - specifically over the 'Competitions Ending' threads. It is not intended as an attack towards our Board Guides who generally do a fantastic job at keeping our wayward forum under some substance of control and all as volunteers.
Recent months have seen daily Competitions Ending threads posted to assist fellow users locate competitions ending on a particular day. Hundreds have thanked each day yet the end of this month sees the expected stopping of their use due to Board Guides deeming them to clutter the forum and causing unnecessary chaos.
I have felt that this suggestions forum as the best place to create a platform for both sides to measure support or opposition to their ideas and to encourage a communicative way forward.
It has been suggested that decisions have been made without consulting Board Guides who have ultimately dealt with matters the best way they could by deeming them unsuitable with majority backing.
Conversely some users feel this matter has been handled without consideration for the users at large and wish to have their voice heard in full support of something a select few decided as inappropriate.
This is your chance to have your voice heard either way!

I truthfully feel Divadee had very valid points in her posts, some i hadnt considered before she brought them up, I personally feel this has caused alot of hurt feelings and should be left alone like the BGs said,
Before these posts, I happily used loquax for closing comps, then wandered back to mse to comp through here, Im happy to go back to that, as it doesnt make a real difference as long as i have pretty much entered what i want from both closing lists already.
Doing this i feel undermines what has been said by the boardguides, and just will cause more unsettled compers, xxx#JusticeForGrenfell0 -
I totally agree with toniq here. I use loquax and prizefinder if I want to enter the closing soon comps. I tend to keep more or less upto date with the ones on here, after all I dont enter them all. I dont mind either way as I dont use the closing threadsWeight Loss - 102lb0

I thought "Competition Ending" threads were an excellent addition to the forum & had it of been given more of a chance & perhaps a few guidelines then i am unable to see why so much fuss was caused
.... surely, anything that makes peoples lives a litle easier benefits the "fun" element of the site :j
In my opinion the real answer is to allow the site to search by date correctly, having read the instruction on how to date order the threads, it seems a much more primitive way to me & frankly does not work as it batches all kinds of dates together
Finally, i would also like to thank the people for their hard work, contribution & general initiative in the "comp ending" threads ... it was a great idea & i for one, would welcome it back anytime, whether it be in the same format or something similar0 -
I have tried not to get too involved with the Date Ending Thread discussion but am really glad a poll is being conducted to see what the majority want.
If the way the threads were started and conducted offended people, I am sure posters would adhere to rules set out by the Board Guides. Please let's have this open for discussion.
There have been hundreds of thanks for these threads (including me) and many positive comments and sadness at their demise as directed by the Board Guides. I really think this decision is a shame, the forum is organic, grows everyday and change can be a good thing , as I said before, the comments and thanks seem to agree with this.
Well done Monsieur Epargent for doing this - I like to think this forum belongs to every-one and is democratic so I am off to vote now :T :T :T:A Thank you to all who post xxx :A

I really enjoy the 'closing comps' thread. Yes, you can go to other website..but none has the number of good comps that MSE has.
(BY the way has Loquax closed down as can't get into it at all these days).
Fair enough if someone doesn't want to use the Closing Comps..that's ok..don't, but there are many who DO use them.
Yes, the last lot caused some hurt feelings, which could have been avoided.
That should be sorted out (and I think wouln't happen again) but not the banning of the closing comps thread all together.
Maybe ask those who DO use them to give their names, and give a STICKY line to them. Then those who want this 'service' can work it out between them over who wil do when.
Then it will, not offend anyone who doesn't want to use them.
I can't sit at the computer all day and do miss many comps...so this list is great for me. A cup of tea, a biscuit and my closing comps list...and my evening is sorted!!
Please do look at all sides and maybe..instead of a blanket ban, an accommodation would be better,Good Luck All

I liked the forum the way it was before the comps closing threads. It was simple to understand & use and very welcoming. In my limited time here I have seen maybe a dozen or more initiatives to start a comps closing solution and until this most recent one they all fizzled out as people adapted to the existing way of comps on MSE. Its really easy, have a look at the comps, enter the ones you want. If you miss a comp, is it really a big deal? What about all the comps you missed before joining MSE or starting comping. Life really is too short to worry about missing a few comps beacuse, thanks to the brilliant members, we have brought so many of them together here.
The way the comps ending thread was managed also placed a very high burden on those compiling the lists. Its unreasonable to expect the same people to do this work whilst others just take the benefit without contributing. Admittedly the compilers were volunteers but the system quickly went awry and people got upset. I think that is very likely to happen again, albeit maybe for some other reason. Also, the preactice of having part 1,part 2 etc, plus multiple days of comps ending, at times, did clutter the board.
I know a lot of people liked them and found them useful, but they weren't the way I do comps, nor were they the way MSE comps was set up to support.

I don't mind the closing comps threads, but mainly because I don't really use them. I normally venture in to say thanks to the OP's for compiling the lists (if I come across them) but other than that I just work my way through the pages and if I miss some, then I miss them.
I can see both sides of the story and would love a solution where everyone was happy. I'm not sure that can happen, as it's been proved lately that crossed wires can happen and cause problems.
Maybe it's safer to not have them and let each person do their own thing like it has been in the past. Comping is supposed to be fun and something you can do to fill time. We should remember that.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
I haven't had any part in this discussion before - I didn't use the closing threads, I did look at them once but it was a waste of time for me personally as I had done all the comps listed that I wanted too.
I disliked (and still do) all the sniping, arguing, bickering and ill feeling it was causing on the board - comping is supposed to be fun - not 'getting as many entries in as possible before they close'! if you miss - you miss it - there will be another one along soon!
It seems to be a new influx of compers that are trying to change the board, but I don't see why we need this huge amount of duplicated comps - stick to what has worked in the past, why not try it before trying to change it.
good luck everyone
PS - I think the poll wording is very confusing - I almost hit the wrong box.
The first one - keep the threads in current format - I read it as the board overall (if you know what I mean!)Jo x2007:£5181.09 2008: £6619.70 2009: £4284.49 2010: £5213.14 2011: £4980.62 2012: £3188.52

Thanks for the poll. :T
Well im obviously not a newbie at comping but i loved the comps ending threads, i thought they were fab & all the hard work that were put into them was very much appreciated here.
If it is a definite no-no that they have to go off here, why dont we do what someone (sorry i forgot) mentioned earlier, to get a free hosting site and list them on there, surely it doesnt matter where they are listed if theyre still gonna be up!
Anyway whatever the decision is, we all have to respect that but i will be very sad to see them go xxDo good and good will come to you.0
