33mph in a 30 limit. been flashed!

Options
Apologies if this duplicates but I posted it this morning and its not appeared yet.

I got flashed by a camera doing no more than 33 in a 30 limit. How long will it be before I get to know one way or the other if I am going to have points/fine?? I have a clean license up to now and I know I am worrying unnecessarily but want to know the time limit so I can relax!

think its 6 weeks but not certain. You might have cause to complain if they do send you a ticket because you might not be over the limit by enough. There is a minimum standard I believe.

There is a good column in the sunday mirror for motoring queries

From what I remember if you haven't had a letter in the post within 2 weeks (give or take a little for xmas post) you should be ok....
I believe legally they have to get a letter out to you within the 2 week period so there is the possibility it could be posted to you on the 14th day and that would make it still valid...

Anyone else know more about this as my knowledge is from a few years back??
  • if you are sure you were only doing 33 by your car speedo then its unlikely you were doing more than 30

Unless the speedo is really off or the wheel/tyre size has been changed on the driven wheels.

I think I have read that speed cameras sometimes do test flashes at random, don't know if this is true or not.

Speedos are supposed to have a 10% tolerance do they not?
So while your speedo read 33 you could have been going 30...

Sounds about right, I got mine within 7/10 days.
If you was over the limit then I suspect 3 points and £60 fine (standard) will be your outcome.

At present the minimum fine for speeding or running a red light is £60 and three penalty points added to your licence.

IF you receive a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) it has to be dated within 14 days. Also IF it arrives check and keep the envelope. They have to be sent a minimum of first class you can also check the date of posting on the envelope etc...

You will then have to send off your S172 form to them in 28 days, stating who was driving etc... There is no need to send this off any earlier than needs be about day 24 would be best. Always send any forms/replies back first class recorded you at least have proof you responded then. The scamera partnerships will try every way to get you.

If you do get a NIP make sure you do send the form back within the 28 days or you will get stung for a S172 failure which is a 1k fine and 6 points!!!

    Any other questions just ask

When my speedo reads 33, I'm actually doing 27! But my last car was incredibly accurate - 33 on the Toyota really was 33.

I guess there's no way to know until the letter arrives - sorry OP, I know it's a pain :(

I've noticed that if a car is speeding in the opposite direction when you go through the camera, it will flash
