Weekly Flylady Thread 20th August 2007

Options
Welcome to the weekly flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Following requests to start things steadier for new members who did not realise the tasks list wasn’t a must do, just an encouragement, we now have levels. There will now be level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day, level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN

Also adding a declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.

A few of the basics before we start the week:

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc
Nighttime routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

Manic Monday - Kitchen and Dining Room
Level One
Clean floors
Level Two
Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces
Clean cupboard door fronts and the front of appliances
Sort fridge bringing what needs using soon to the front
Wipe dining table (clean table cloth if necessary)
Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining room, checking for cobwebs on way round
Wipe window sills, clean any marks off windows if required
Wash the washer drawer out if it's gunky
Extra Mission
Choose one or more of:
  • Clean oven (if it needs it)
  • Set a target for this week of putting dark clothes straight in the washer, just lights in the basket, might just help you keep on top of the laundry, worth a try ?
  • Clean under small appliances
  • Give pans a good thorough clean (and where they are stored)
Tuesday Living Room, Hall and Stairs

Level 1
Remove clutter making sure stairs especially are safe
Level 2
Vacuum floors and sofas
Dusting, even if it is around things
Clean TV, other electricals and cabinets
Level 3
Wipe door handles and banister
Move objects so dusting is more thorough, dust them before putting back
Vacuum under furniture (only if you won't hurt yourself doing it, don't want any injuries)
Extra Mission:
Pick one or more of the following tasks –
  • Pilish any furniture that is feeling a little neglected, of course if it's cluttered up then you might need to do some clearing first
  • Sort through shoes, coats and bags (might be an idea to get the waterproofs out and put the summer ones away :( )
  • Clean any glass items in this room like mirrors, clocks etc
  • Sort through any books or magazines lying around, put them where they should be, if there is a library book due to be returned then make sure it goes back or is booked out again
Wednesday, Master Bedroom & Landing

Level 1
Check fire alarms are working
Vacuum floor in bedroom and on landing
Level 2
Remove bed linen and replace with frsh linen
Dust surfaces & make sure no cobwebs
Level 3
Vacuum mattress before replacing with fresh linen
Extra tasks list, as usual choose one or more
  • 27 fling boogie time, time for that midweek fling, go on grab a bag and clear that clutter
  • Sort one drawer, making sure only what should be in there is, anything that's had it's day or doesn't belong there is removed
  • Clean windows in these rooms
  • Clear any one hotspot
Thursday Bathroom and Study/Pc Area
Level One
Vacuum/sweep & mop floors in these rooms
Level Two
Clear clutter from desk
Clean bath, toilet and sink
Dust PC and desk
Level Three
Wipe keyboard and mouse (these usually have more germs on than your toilet so important)
Extra mission:
Pick whichever you want to attempt
  • Clean windows in today's rooms
  • Clean shower curtain/screen if you have one
  • Wash your bathroom mats
  • 15 minutes paperwork sorting, deal with anything urgent today, why put it off, it won't take you long
Friday - those frightning Friday kids rooms and spare rooms

Level One

Vacuum the floor, even if it's just where you can get to

Level Two
Dusting - try to get the tops of drawers/wardrobes if you can reach safely (does not apply to those who are expecting!!!)
Strip beds and replace with fresh linen
Level Three
Put anything that isn't in it's place where it should be
Vacuum Floor (even if it's just where you can see)
Wipe any sticky marks off walls and doors
Extra Task List

As usual pick any one or more of the following if you fancy an extra challenge today and are still alive after entering the kids rooms!!
  • Catch up with laundry, lets see how many have an empty washing basket today (and hope for good weather)
  • Time for the Friday Flylady Fling, aim for 27, if you can't find that many, well done, you are obviously making a difference
  • Storage area sort, sort through any one neglected dumping ground
  • Clean any one (or more) window that needs doing

Apart from the dailies and night time routines that's the lot for the week, of course if you still want to join us over the weekend you are more than welcome.

Don't forget your ME time this weekend :D you deserve a treat after all the work you have all put in

I know it's a Bank Holiday weekend, for those who are going away etc have a nice weekend, the list will restart on Monday as if we leave a day we have to try and fit it in over the week, so instead if you miss Monday probably easier just to wait until next week unless you want to add it in somewhere. Have a great weekend everyone :D
One day I might be more organised...........

Evening all just digesting. Lil-me DS2 is fine thanks - just a big bruise to the thigh.

Need to go and look at the preparing for winter thread!

Hoping the flying will be easy this week as I have really worked at it this week. For newbies the more clutter you clear the easier it gets.

I've got a little bit ahead already! While I was waiting for the kettle to boil I wiped down all the cupboard fronts and the fridge/freezer, washing machine. The worktops were wiped quickly after making tea but I will do them properly tomorrow again.

Never been early with the kitchen before :D

Thanks for the new thread Lil_me. Like the pans idea, mine aren't too pleasant but I'm going to need tips when the time comes.

Good for you Pollybear. My Mum seems to have waved some kind of Magic Mum Wand in there today.. I might just start tonight too, girly swot that I am.

Well I was good when I got in from work. DH had emptied the bin and put the lunch plates in the sink. The lounge and hall had been detoyed, but think this was down to the girls deciding they wanted to cover every inch of their bedroom carpet with toys and dressing up costumes:D .

So since i got in I have:-

    S & S lounge
    Made girls popcorn
    S & S bathroom
    S & S kitchen
Made chocolate orange cake with littles - yummy yum yum:D
    Made tea
Re S & S kitchen after making tea and cake
Swept kitchen floor, mopped and wiped down worksurfaces
Made DH sandwich filling for tomorrow (coronation chicken)
Put onion & chive bread roll stuff in BM
Moved another box of computer junk off dining table and dumped on DH computer desk;)

I have dug the ironingboard and iron out but not used them yet. Next job I promise will see whats on sky and set the timer for an hour. Going to allow myself until 7.30 to have a mooch around.

Did want to apply for new job but closing date tomorrow and their website is down, typical!

    Evening all,

Have had quite a lazy day today - delivered the Kirby back to my Mum and Dad this morning, and then OH and I watched TV for the rest of the day - we were rudely awakened at 2am by our upstairs neighbour's associate swearing at the top of his voice, right outside our front door, then her toddler started to cry, so we couldn't get back to sleep for a while after that. My elderly neighbour (83) was also woken up, and was understandably shaken, as she was worried that they may put something through her letterbox or something.

OH has gone off shooting - he's really pleased with himself as the members of the club asked him to be in a competition for them - aah! He won't be home til 9 so late dinner for me.

Hugs to nicki. It's really nice that you are still talking and that you can be mates. Be strong - if you need to talk, you know we are all here for you.

Welcome back julie jim - hope your holiday went well.

Think I'm going to have to join everyone in getting ahead. Anyone up for a solway 30-minute challenge?

    Sexymouse xx
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • Shirley- I like the wedding photos taken when the bride and groom have just had the confetti thrown at them.

When we got married we only had about 25 people to the ceremony and we wrote a list of the photos we wanted. We wanted some with just friends, some with just my family, just DH's family, both sets of parents etc etc. Maybe ask them to think about who they want to have in different groups, then it's easier to organise.
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.
