When I enter the e-ode it states that it is not valid. I cant seem to browse to this range of laptops from the dell website. I'd appreciate if anyone can answer the following questions.
1. What is the equivalent Intel Processor?
2. What is the difference between the standard LCD and the True Life LCD?
3. How many USB ports?
4. Does it have Firewire?0 -
"4 cell Lithium-Ion Battery (29 Whr)"
Dont rely an ousing it off the mains for any longer than about 45 minutes !0 -

Depends on what you're doing with it, but i'd estimate 1.5 hrs and 2.5 hrs respectively.
Personally, i'd go for at least the 6 cell battery if you have any requirement to use it off the mains0 -
I wouldnt buy this machine tbh, running an Athlon 64 X2 it'll eat the battery and get warm.
Even the AMD Turion isn't brilliant but the Athlon will be terrible for power consumption.
There are plenty of Intel based laptops around for the £400 mark - much better buys.0 -

The Vostro is aimed more for the business user. You won't find it in the home section as Dell recommend the Inspiron range for the home user.
Even though it's in the business section you can still buy it for home use.0 -
to overpaid_underpaid...
the Vostro 1000 has 4 USB sockets and no firewire sockets as standard.
Personally I would highly recommend this machine. I buy and sell a lot of laptops and this model is great value for money in my opinion.0 -
If I already have a copy of XP, am I best getting this laptop with Vista and then rolling back to XP or even a Linux distribution if I don't like it? Is that possible or isn't it that simple? I've never used Vista but considering Microsoft's penchant for upping the demands on the system with each release I'm not sure I'll like it. Seems a shame to change it to XP and miss a free copy of vista.0
