Photo Booth = £4 for a sheet of 4. (with a stupid grin!)
ASDA = 64p for a sheet of 6. (in your best pose!)
Don't waste money getting your passport pictures taken at photo booths.
Instead, take your own picture with a digital camera/mobile phone/scan and take the file into ASDA (on cd/memorybcard/some allow mobile infrared transfer). The machine will let you print out a sheet of 6 for 64p!
Other places such as Boots may let you do this but it depends on their machines and software.
This is especially important for new students just starting at University. I would suggest you take atleast 6 with you. You may need them for:
- Railcards & Transport passes
- NUS cards
- A couple for the accomodation/halls people
- A couple for the University when enrolling
- Library card
The best bit about being prepared is not the money you'll save, but the time you save. The que at the Union photobooth on enrollment day will be loooonnnnnggggggg! Remember me when you see it

If you're going to Leeds Uni (I'm sure other uni's will be doing it by now) then don't worry about it as it's all gone digital now, they take your photo at registration and thats used for all your cards and online accounts etc.)
Still useful to have some though (for railcard, NUS extra (if you get one) and anything else), and at 64p you can't go wrong.0 -
For NUS Extra cards now, you can now upload your photo online (at least you could last year)!0

Just thought that i'll give this thread a bump as my university has requested a further two passport photos for the 'freshers pass' and 'freshers ball'.They say you can't put a value on life... but I live it at half price!0

I always do this for passport photos for the family...especially as it's quite difficult to get the 4 year olds to sit still in a photo booth.
I then use free photo editing software to resize the photos to fit 8 pictures on one standard 6"x4" photo (this makes each picture the required passport size!).
It then costs about 5p (at my local Tesco) to get this one photo printed (containing 8 passport photos!), and the pictures are usually much better than the photo booths!!
If the photos are being used for passports, then they must be up to the following standard...

for true moneysaving, use a normal inkjet printer, standard A4 paper (or, if you're adventurous, card) and a pair of scissors... you can fit loads of photos on a sheet, and i've found that just about everything - railcards, bus passes, (old style) NUS cards, unis - accept them. obviously don't go trying to use them for passports or driving licences, but for almost everything else they'll do fine.
for extra extra moneysaving, use the uni's inkjets to print them out... :P0 -
Yes, Durham decided they somehow wanted 13 passport photos (!!!), so Dad printed them off the computer onto photopaper. Because Durham also wants your name on the back of them, Dad also managed to get the computer to print my name on the back too.0
