As the link seems to have drifted of the Richter scale, I shall put it back on for the benefit of those who missed it. http://www.artus-fh.co.uk/source/Freebies%20Page.html

    There's more at https://www.filehippo.com

I second File Hippo. As someone who's spent countless hours installing, trying out software, uninstalling most of it and keeping the one or two good programs, File Hippo is the best site if you want to know what the best programs for the different software categories are. Funnily enough, I don't download from File Hippo. I use download.com, snapfiles.com and freewarefiles.com to select programs to download and try out but every time I look at File Hippo I see a mirror image of my Apps folder. :)
The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.

Wasn't this on a recent thread?

I third filehippo, but also take a look at
    http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm
You also get a comparison with similar programs listing pros and cons, expert/novice etc.

The free newsletter has links to other freebies, and so far has not lead to any spam.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Thanks, Spud. Yes this has run on and off for a couple of weeks. I revived it for peeps who might have missed it. I don't believe in paying unnecessarily. :)

Can I recommend a program for anyone who doesnt know greatly about computers...

CCleaner (https://www.ccleaner.com) its great for deleting temps, fixing the registry (that will scare you, most people who have never cleaned out their registry will have possibly thousands of errors) and uninstalling programs easily.

This does get mentioned a lot already on this board.
