Tesco not allowing 1p items to be sold

Options
Really annoyed as my stores are split into 3
First lot don't have these items, probably because it isn't big enough to stock the ranges involved
Second lot have them in stock - but all still full price
Third lot have the items, they scan at 1p, but store refuse to sell them !! Say they must go in the skip !!!!!
Amazing that the same company will sell you something for £5, but when it reduces the price to 1p, refuses to sell it, but bins it.
So much for re-cycling and saving the planet.
It is not as thought these items are food items and gone past their sell-by-date. The neutragena just seem to have changed their packaging/colour scheme.
It is always useful to have some nice new items when the school bazaars and Church fetes are asking for items to be donated.
Could someone in the Tesco camp tell me if these will be actually binned. I wouldn't mind if it was put on one side for staff only - after all they should get some perks - but if they really do bin it, it's criminal.
Why don't they give it to the local charity shop to sell, or donate it to a worthy local organisation ? I'm sure "help the aged" etc would find a very good home for all these toiletries:confused:
Rant over:cool:

I agree. My local express chucks out loads of bread & other food into cages. I don't understad why they dont just reduce it all to 5 or 10p so it actually sells? My local "big" Tesco does reduce stuff cheap. The express have even told people off for taking a few loaves from the bin to feed the ducks in the park round the corner. what a waste.

I am a tesco employee, and staff are not allowed to purchase these items.one of the reasons they are removed from sale, not all purchasers buy them as a bargain for themselves or family,or to donate to charity, but to buy up all the stock to sell on ebay or car boot sales to profit themselves and there greed.i have seen this first hand many times over the years.i have a charity and i would not be able to achieve as much without the generosity of my employers .who donate much of these reduced items to me so that the children that i represent can have a chance to the education that is denied them in there third world country.i am sure you will agree with me that any child no matter where in the world has a right to the chance of having the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty.so you will forgive me for defending my employers who i have found to be very generous and supporting me over the years.

Every 1p post recently have been full price at my local store too. Is there such a thing as a hand scanner that can read Tesco barcodes?

You could use the scanners located on pillars if your store has one, but often out of order.
    Scanner location list here.

Its possible the store you are shopping in is too big - Tesco use store specific pricing to manage discontinued lines, obviously a larger store has the capacity to carry a larger range so will have less to discontinue. But then I suppose has a bigger range in the first place, so maybe has more....oh well, I knew what I meant

Gillette Mach 3 Turbo still scans at a penny for me ;)
Who or what was I before you came in to my life
    I am not sure

I find that I got more bargains at the smaller tesco than the extra tesco...The extra had hardly any bargains where as I picked loads up from the smaller store...I picked up some "Kiss my face" deodrant for 99p and the larger store sell it for £3.99..Bargain..They seem to have a lot more available in my smaller tesco than the extra one...All stores seem to differ...

I don't know why my post last night had been removed.
Could I ask anyone in the know if Tesco really do "BIN" these 1p items that they refuse to sell ?
I have literally had them taken out of my basket by the supervisor  and she has been escorted by security to put them in the skip "out back" !!!!
I don't mind in the slightest if they are put on one side for staff, but if they are binned ......
    Thanks

I to had a rant yesterday and post was removed so i will stay on topic this time. I don't work for Tesco's but since reading various threads on this board, I do believe that Tesco do throw a lot of stuff away. Remember reading that over christmas they filled those huge metal cages with wrapping paper decorations etc. All for the bin.
I find it shocking that they refused to sell you those items for 1p, espcially when if you are there ready to pay for the items, its very unfair that they are auditing your items like that !

I have been reading this thread for a couple of days now and can't quite understand one thing. How do you know that these things are going to be scanned for a 1p or is it pot luck?
