I noticed that call18866 are putting up their connection fee to 2p from the 23rd of March does this still make them the cheapest provider? also their mobile phone rate has crept up on the quiet from 2p a minute to 3p a minute ,1p connection fee still through the week, still cheap yes but their customer base is getting larger and maybe they,ll start to raise prices because there can,t be much profit in it for them at the moment ?

How much will a 10 minute call to a Glasgow 0141 number cost on BT at 11am next Wednesday morning?
Answer? 30p.
How much would that same call cost using 18866?
Answer? 2p.
I've never been involved in designing or building rockets but I think I can decide which to use!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I'm no rocket scientist either but I will almost certainly stop using 18866 on 22 March.
Connection charges are like a stealth tax. They mount up, especially when you reach an answer machine or otherwise make a very brief call. I will return to using Tiscali (previously AXS) at 2p per minute but no connection charge. I'm an NTL customer, rather than BT based.0 -

Do they charge by the minute or by the second ?"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Ok, so heading up an email "18866 Spring Sale" is an odd way of telling Customers that you're doubling the connection charge but I'm with Heinz et al on the it's still cheaper than BT : chant and that's always gonna make me smile!History repeats itself
Has to.

Dear customer,
Just because we already offer ridiculously low prices does not mean we
can't
have a spring sale! Call the following countries for only 1 pence per
minute!
Australia
Canada
France
Germany
Ireland
From the 23rd of March 18866 will apply a connection fee of 2p per call.
Please note that calls to landlines within the U.K. will remain 0.0 p
per minute,
so that still makes 18866 the cheapest telephone company by far! Compare
this to
BT's 5.5p for the same conversations; a 63% saving!!!
