hi, just read about claimimg back bank charges. sounds fantastic if i can.
My big worry is this: I not only have a bank account but also a large loan with the same bank.
If i claim the charges back from my account can the bank then not only cancel the account, but also ask for immediate repayment of the loan?
Am i on a sticky wicket here.?
Much appreciate any help with this.

the bank account and loan agreement are two separate agreements and should be treated as such.
i'm sure other members will agree (Rex_Mundi & Edinburghlass) are usually v.good.
but from what you have said i see no reason why you can't claim back charges
good luck

I haven't seen any cases yet where banks have asked for loans to be repaid because of charges being reclaimed on an account. This is also in cases where the bank has requested an account closed after refund of the charges. These are seperate agreements, and the bank shouldn't have any cause to close the loan if it is being paid back as per the agreement.

thanks for that, feel a bit more confident. One last thing my account is really appalling, always overdrawn, late payments returned d/d`s.(bit of a serial offender). Even with this do you still think I can claim?0

Absolutely!!!
It's not about your behaviour in running your account. Nobody is saying there should be no charge, only that the charge should be fair and reflect what it costs the banks (which it patently doesn't). You are asking for a refund of these charges because the banks have used them to fine you (and make profit from), which they are not allowed to do by law.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hey all,
I'm thinking about claiming back bank charges as I'm struggling for money because the they keep charging me!! I know I should'nt of gone into my overdraft in the first place but hey, s*** happens. Since the first time, I have not been able to get back on my feet as they keep charging me every month.
Thing is, if I do try and claim them back, and they close my account, will they also take back the loan I have with them??
Help Please!!

The loan is an entirely different transaction and will run through a separate account.nickm122 wrote:Thing is, if I do try and claim them back, and they close my account, will they also take back the loan I have with them?
As long as you’re up-to-date and continue to fulfil your obligation, to pay £ xx at a certain date, the bank cannot foreclose the loan, regardless of the situation with your current account.0 -
Hi, I'm new to this site and very keen to try and reclaim some bank charges. However, I have a graduate loan with Barclays Bank, if they close my account do they have the right to ask for their money back? Thanks, Claire0

Yes they can close your account, you need a back up acc just in case!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

The loan money too? My problem is that it is a graduate loan, so don't think I would be able to secure a loan for that amount again.... so does that mean that I should just forget trying to reclaim the charges?0
