Are Tesco Clubcard Deals worth it?

Now before I get blasted, yes I know they are not real cash but you may be like us who have spent more than we normally would with Tescos to collect a few thousand points.
Having now got the points, I have been suprised how poor the value is when you try and spend them. For instance, trying to book a room at a McDonald Hotel and the only rate I could use the Clubcard vouchers for was £110 per person, per night. MFI who retail flooring at £75 a meter (versus £10 pm in B&Q) and toliets at £100+ (£60 at B&Q).
The net is that it seems there is a far inflated price when you want to purchase using Tesco clubcard vouchers. The only offer not like that seems to be the RAC cover.
So the point to the post, did you get a good deal or were you able to 'buy' a bargain with your Tesco Clubcard points? Did you get a last minute holiday or did you have to book full brochure price?

Are you looking at like-for-like though? For instance, is the £60 toilet in B&Q of the same quality as MFI? Exactly the same question can be asked about the flooring.
Hilton Hotels don't let you use discounts on rooms, but they are not substantially more. They would look exensive compared to a Travelodge though iyswim.
I think the aswer is that they do not allow you to shop around to the same extent as 'cash' would, and most people would agree that in reality Deals are not 4X the value, but still well worth having!0 -
I think I will follow this thread with a great deal of interest. Before we moved I did every bit of my shopping and petrol purchasing at Tescos. I am sitting with over £300 worth of vouchers and have no idea on what to spend them.
I now do all my shopping at Sainsburys because the closest Tesco's is over 10 miles away. "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
I have just purchased a rangemaster cooker via MFI and Tesco vouchers, it was in the sale and was still the cheapest place I could find it. However the real bonus and the point of the deals is that I have not actually paid out any actual cash. I have to shop, buy petrol etc somewhere so I might as well get something in return.
If you are going to buy the item anyway and you use your vouchers they cant be beaten. I have used them to take the kids bowling and have not paid anymore than I would have normally.
I have also used them to book 2 weeks airport parking, yes I was unable to use any other discount code, but it has cost me no actual cash.
We all know MFI can be bl***dy expensive but if you want to buy a toilet why not get it FOC .CUT OFF DATE FOR XMAS 2008 1st NOVPB £17.87, Ipoints 3907, QUIDCO £217.94,SHOP&SCAN 1950, LITESPEED 1265,PINECONE £8,BOOTS £18.62, IPSOS 1190, VALUED OPINIONS £19.25,MISC SURVEYS CLICK THROUGH ACCS ETC £23,0 -

There has to be some good deals out there, or bye bye Mr Tescos.0 -

Just wanted to check that you were looking at them on like-to-like basis...
Have you looked at the paidtoshop forum? Lots of people get some very good deals there, and have lots of info on negotiating with MFI, booking Virgin Hols (seems to be a favourite) and most importantly, spending as little as possible to get as many points, therefore spend at Tesco's isn't really that much of an issue.0 -
I agree. I used to deliberately pay slightly more at Tesco's to get the clubcard points but there's nothing now I want to exchange them for. The days out are the best value but there's a limit to how many days out you can take. MFI is ridiculously overpriced and, I think, pretty poor quality. I can't believe ANYONE shops there at full price. And their customer service is atrocious.
I do most of my shop now at Asda (I have a store card so get cheaper petrol and also points back) but it will be interesting to see if Tesco replace MFI with a company worth collecting vouchers forThere's nothing wrong with bags under the eyes as long as your shoes match0 -
I use mine to buy the whole family Tussauds Group annual passes. This means we can do family days out in any combination as often as we like over the year. I can take my niece and nephews if I choose at no cost to anyone so for us, it works out as exceptional value for money.0

I have to say the only time I attempted to use my vouchers at MFI for a bed for my little boy I ended up cancelling the order as no-one seemed to know what was going on.0

I certainly think the deals are worth it, I am currently saving up my points for a new Tag Heuer from Goldsmiths, I should have enough for a £1300 watch come the summer - and its not costing me any money whatsoever0

I agree - why would anyone pay full price for anything at MFI. I have to say tho, that I have kitted out my daughter's bedroom with furniture that i would have never have got the cash together for. It was bought in the 'Sale' last autumn. I also got a new double slumberland bed (which is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!!). The total came to £630 incl delivery - I paid for it all in Tesco vouchers. I have a very tight monthly budget but thru using the codes for having it delivered and also till spits, I was able to keep within my budget without overspending. I accumulated these points within 2 quarters so for me it was well worth it.0
