OS Tuesday 19th December

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 19th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone

This is a little earlier than my usual posts but I can’t sleep. My own fault as I drank way too many “normal” teas this afternoon and evening, when out at a friend’s, instead of my more usual decaff tea. So, of course, can’t sleep.

I was sorting the friend’s broadband and other problems on her PC. Got most sorted but will need to see her again to sort the final couple out.

So, what for today?

Probably plenty of sleep at sometime to make up for this insomnia.

Then, check I really have sent all my cards. Think I have. Received sad news yesterday from the OH of a friend I used to teach with back in the 80s. He told us she died in May this year. A full-of-life woman even in her 80s. Sad loss.

Boring stuff around the house to do today, like (do you really need to hear this?) kitchen floor, bathroom, shower room plus other put-off bits.

And, I guess there must be shopping to do – isn’t there always? We operate a just-in-time set-up here so never have big stocks in as we can so easily pop down to the local shops.

So, will try and grab a couple of hours sleep before sorting penninewoman’s breakfast if I can.

Maybe see you all later.

Goodmorning pennineman & all to follow,

Had to dash back from the house to put the roast on for tea. While I was here thought I"d post on here before racing back. Two choc bailey's balls that DD made last night fell into my mouth as well. :D That will be 2 less that her work collegues will eat. I bet she counted them.

It's hot today. I know, I can hear you cry "stop the moaning" but it is. :p I made the aberdeen sausages this morning. One broke while I was rolling it in breadcrumbs, so had a wee slice just to taste test. ;) Oh, what a wonderful cook am I. :D My sister & husband are visiting on Friday. She's bringing their old computer to give to XDIL and also to look around at progress at the house. I should tell her to bring over some lemon curd as well. I have none left and I love it. Well better get going.

Hope you all have a great day. How did the rabbit fare overnight?
Pen Pen, please don't reply. :D Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Morning Aussie and pennineman and those to follow

Err what do I have to do today?

I think I will get the rest of the prezzies wrapped when bubba goes down for his nap so they are all out of the way. Need to get the kids hair cut as well. Had to go through DSs hair tonight, there is a woman at school who keeps sending her daughter in with nits, she has been sent home 4 times in the past 2 weeks, mum is one of those that think a quick brush though is all she has to do

Found some egg in his hair, but they were all dead, and I couldnt find a single louse in there, had a bloody good look too, much to his discomfort :rotfl: My head was itchy the whole time I was doing it, bet yours is not as well :D

I want to put a wash on and get some clothes put away, other than hoovering, its the task I hate the most. Going to send an email to my aunt who lives in South Africa in a min, she has got Motor neuron disese, and doesnt have long left, she is not starting to lose the use of her throat, hopefully she will make it past the new year. I havent seen her since I was a baby, so I am going to send some photos over say hi.

Anniebooklover good news, I managed to get a bike, got it delivered today off ebay, for £31 and its a smashing bike, he is going to love it, so as of today all xmas shopping (barring a few cards) is finished

Hope everyone has a good day take care xxxx

It's gone quite cold, I am sitting here and waiting for the heating to come on....Still have to leave for work soon. I don't know what hat might entail today.
Slobbed out last night by the fire and watched TV, The missus wonders how I can just vegetate there in front of it... No big secret that..
Less than a week to go and I still feel that I have quite a bit to do.
Had a big shock yesterday with a £300 quid electric bill:eek: . It's a combination of too low a direct debit and too many estimated bills. I am now wondering how to climb out of that hole. The lectric company don't seem phased by it though. NO demands, No calls for a raise in teh DD, I wonder how long they would have let me sink for??
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

Morning Pennineman, mrs_mix, wanty, Aussie, Frugalpie, N9eave and all who follow.

The results of 6 months(ish) washing-up by hand experiment in a hardwater area are in!

Limescale deposits on cups/plates etc. = NIL! At least, they are not visible yet. I started keeping a bowl of cool rinsing water by the side of the sink when washing up, add a quick squirt of vinegar to it and it's done the trick beautifully. AND it gives me a perfect excuse to keep washing-up down to once a day :D

Have to go to the sorting office and Sainsbury on my way to w**k this morning but they don't open for a bit yet, so another cup of coffee is calling while I try to hunt out a recipe that includes going over persimmons. They were cheap on the market but I found them to astringent to eat on their own. Don't want to waste them though.

One of the local markets also had boxes of papaya for £1, there were at least 8 fruit in them! I think I'll have a search for freezable recipes with them in as well.

Have a good day everyone. :grouphug: <

'Morning Pennineman, mrs_mix, iwanttosave, Aussie, Frugalpie, N9eave and Racy Red :hello:

Today is our Christmas Lunch at work. We have booked into a local restaurant and have all paid up and picked what we want off the menu. I'll be taking a few extra pounds for some Bucks Fizz :D

Youngest DD arrived home last night for a couple of days with us. She is a student and working over Christmas at her part time job (double time). I made us a Christmas dinner last night and afterwards she fell asleep on the sofa for the evening ... awwwww

Eldest DD comes home tonight and we are having a Christmas buffet (HM pizza, cold roasties, potatoe wedges .. the works) ... so I think I may be putting one or two pounds on this week :rotfl:

Have a lovely OS day everyone :santa2:
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

  • Morning Chums ,
all's well in my neck of the woods so far. I have just put on a huge casserole of braising steak with all the trimmings as I have a friend visiting me today from Dartford. I love my SC it takes all the messing about out of cooking .Bung it all in and forget it until lunchtime ,great. I though I would make a nice apple spounge pudding with custard for pud. I bought a couple of lovely bramleys yesterday in the g'grocers.
This afternoon we are going to my craft class and will be eating goodies there as well.
Mmm, good job Christmas only comes once a year.
Tonight I shall be at youngest DD as it's her birthday, no doubt a wee piece of her delicious chocolate cake may be nibbled . Tomorrow I will be good though, as I always try to de-tox a bit before Christmas . I will be on fruit and veggies until Christmas day, that way the Christmas Dinner is more enjoyable . I have always done this and found that it's a good way to ensure that after Christmas it's not too hard to get back on the diet.
Well all presents are wrapped ,all cards are sent or delivered and I don't have to go near a shop for at least ten days .I'm all stocked up with food ect and in January I shall only be shopping from my cupboards, as it's a good way to empty the freezer for a defrost.
I am hoping to go to Italy for a break next year and maybe also the U.S. So I shall be tightening my belt in more ways than one. I love travelling and if I won the lottery that is what my cash would go on.Hope you all have a great day and keep wrapped up warm as it's a tad frosty this morning .(((hugs))) to those in need
