MERGED: Meters - New / Repairs
Hi Guys,
not strictly relevant to this forum....
Our external Gas meter has a broken door - the wind took it off
Any idea who would or should be responsible for fixing it?
Is it myself, and if so who could I call?
Is it my supplier?
Is it Transco?
Thanks in advance
Dan

Who installed it in the first place?
I would give whoever it was a call to query this. Surely the very fact that is it an external meter should mean that you can't be held completely responsible for any damage, given that is it open to the elements and other damage such as vandalism etc?
Be interesting to know how you get on with this.Herman - MP for all!0 -
If gas then transco...
if elec then local eb.Beware the green?0 -
The same thing happened to me last year.
I was a bit hesitant about ringing Swalec about my electricity meter door, incase the charged me,i eventually rang them, they said no problem and they came within the week, and fixed it without me knowing (i work nights).Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
Hiya,
thanks for the replies.
I don't know who fitted the meter, as when I bought the house (nearly 3 years ago) it was already there, and had been for some time apparently.
This is what get on the Transo site:
"Who do I contact regarding requests for meter fixes?
In July 2004 gas metering in the UK became subject to competition. For Transco, this means that its metering services have been completely separated from its transportation activities.
Due to this, it is not possible for Transco to deal with your enquiry. You should contact your gas suppliers in the first instance to raise any queries regarding metering.
The telephone number of your gas supplier will be printed on your gas bill."
As I am in the process of changing suppliers, I think I have to wait.

ring transco they look after the metre boxs. they may send you a new door oh come out and fix itFiliss0

Right, well I rang Transo, who put me through to the wrong department, but they subsequently put me through to the department that deals with meters.
He's sending me a hinge replacement pack FOC, but if that doesn't do it, he said they would charge £60 ish for an engineer to come out and fit a new door.
If the hinges don't work, it could be a case of Cable ties to the rescue0 -
Hi
Do you know how much these costs and where to get them from?

I'm moving this from the Property board as more relevant in here0

If the hinge pack doesn't do the trick, you could try ringing Transco again and suggesting to them that their equipment may be vulnerable if they don't come and repair it foc.Clive the gas0
-
meter boxes are usually the responsibility of the home owner
replacements can be bought from most large DIY stores - may be cheaper than paying Transco the £60!!!
some elec suppliers will repair the elec boxes for you free of charge, but for some reason they dont do the same for gas meter cabinets.
(prob something to do with weather/damp conditions being dangerous with an elec meter but not so with gas?)0
