What a maze it is ,I have a few quotes ,vast variations, hard to differentiate between quality and fitting,it is a whole complex subject,B+Q OR MOBEN,is their that much differeence in quality to justify such a difference in price.Help

I know what you mean!
We've just had a couple of quotes for a new kitchen. I can't believe the fitting charge - £1175 for the 1st & £428 for 'dry fitting' + £600 for plumbing & electrics for the 2nd. I'm looking for an integrated dishwasher, (they quoted £500 minimum), would appreciate some advice as I've never had a dishwasher - only hubby!! What should I be looking for?0 -

Thanks again0 -

Sorry Kenshaz I realised I sort of hijacked your post without intending to. We had a quote on the weekend for some building work needed before our kitchen will be fitted so I asked the builder what he thought about the different kitchens. Obviously he said it depends on budget but he thought some of the higher priced kitchens in for example MFI were good quality & well priced. He felt that the kitchen we are considering (local store), which is double the price of the more expensive MFI kitchen, probably wasn't that much better quality if at all!
Hope this helps & sorry again.:)0 -
Who makes MFI kitchens,Currys use Hygena, wonder if MFI use them as well ,just a thought, does any-one know.To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

Don't touch Moben's with a barge-pole.
They come up time and time again on programmes like Watchdog etc, as not producing the promised goods, poor and un-safe fitters, etc etc.The only stupid question, is an unasked question ...0 -

I'm sure you'll find that Curry's and MFI both sell Hygena kitchens.Clive the gas0 -
As i was a former electrician, in the past i carried out work for kitchen companies that would charge £7-8k for a kitchen with marble worktops, tiles floors, made to measure cupboards, middle of the floor free standing cooking place etc..and the quality and care of the kitchen fitter does alot for the product.
if i a kitchen fitter cares about the product and the quality of the job, then your onto a winner.
I would suggest getting a individual kitchen fitter, a plumber, a electrician but ask the kitchen fitter to work then all for you, so you only see the final product. Big kitchen companies are like Conservatory companies, they work on a target, if they are given 3-4 kitchens a week for a extra bonus, the kitchen at the start of the week would get the quality job, and as the week goes on the kitchen gets fitted faster.
I would pick a small time kitchen firm that promises a quality finished product and not someone like MFI, B&Q, MOBIN etc as these are big firms who dont care about the customer.
if you want 1-2-1 communication with the guy doing the work, then pic the little guy, and ask for photographs of previous work etc, as most carry a portfolio..

We were told that Howdens Joinery makes MFI kitchens and, apparently, you can order units from them & get them fitted by an independent kitchen fitter but I don't know how accurate this information is. Sorry I don't know any more than that about them.
Does anyone know anything about Keller Kitchens?
We've just had another quote from a different local company (still double MFI) but they only charge £850 for fitting plus 'plumbing and electrics'. So that's £1175 in MFI plus p+e; £428 plus £600 for p+e (provided we don't want too much done!) - local company or £850 plus p+e - local company.
I'm going to lie down in a darkened room!!0
