Hardly news to most techie people who have probably already downloaded the beta version, but I think it might be a good idea for everyone else to download it as soon as possible.

If you have Automatic Updates switched on, it'll soon be downloaded automatically in the coming weeks - but I think most of the people who have only ever used IE would much rather download it themselves and get used to it, than turn their computer on one morning with Windows annoying them to install when they're not ready

I've not tried the beta, but how does it compare to firefox? Is it easy to use, look nice and easily customised? Will probably just wait for windows to automatically update for me.

Anyone had any problems with it?

    Looks nice.

had a few issues with some of the early beta's. This final version seems to have ironed out those issues and have had no problems today.
Ever stop to think and forget to start again?

Don't use it myself, but the missus does. She's not very computer savvy but seems to get on with it OK, despite initial grumblings about the completely different lay out.

  • I downloaded it this morning and it seems fine. Normally I use firefox and keep IE for the odd site, and certainly IE7 seems a big improvement on IE6. Like firefox they have added tabbed browsing and a few other add ons. A neat trick is the phishing tool for checking out suspect web sites

I think I'll leave it as my default for now to get used to it. I've transferred my FF bookmarks across. I do like the quick tabs feature, but not manually putting in my search engine add ins.

Can I check, does it overwrite IE6?

Yes, think of it as an update just a bit more significant.

I think you can go back to IE 6 if absolutely necessary.

But the danger is that some people who are so used to the old IE will want to stick to it. For security it's important to get away from IE 6.

One example: All the major new browsers will have anti-phishing built in. IE7 has it, Firefox is just about to release a version with it, and Opera have announced it will be coming soon.

I actually think it's much easier to get used to Firefox than it is to get used to the new IE so if you really don't like IE7, it might be a much better to swich to Firefox than back to IE6. The Firefox interface is close to IE6's whereas IE7 have moved just about everything around. (You can run Firefox and IE at the same time - you don't have to choose just one)

It's possible to remove IE7 in Add-Remove programs
