Hey I think for the train tickets you can book for anywhere, it doesn't just have to be in scotland. I have seen this offer a few months ago and did leeds to scarborough and got half price discount.
  • Don't forget if you are going to Carlisle, Oxenholme (Lake District), Manchester, etc you might be able to get an advance ticket for as little as £1 each way at https://www.megatrain.com

I benefitted from this offer last time to stock up on commuting tickets (Cambridgeshire) as I work 4 days and season tickets are no saving. It worked this time as well (though it is laborious to buy each ticket separately). Thanks OP!
  • Thanks so much for this post, it will save me a wad of cash!

Just a quick reminder for those that did this last time. Although it doesn't allow railcard discounts throught this link, if you go to https://www.firstscotrail.co.uk out the tickets you want in your basket, then book another random ticket through the link (then delete it) the discount should be taken off the railcard discounted ticket at the final stage.

Have at look at this thread where it is slightly better explained!

  • This doesnt work for me -tickets to london from Newport is full price! doh!"
