Remember to look at the prices of 2 singles rather than a return, you can get massive savings that way.

Re: the card refusal problem. It seems to me to be a result of the scotrail site not being very good at knowing what tickets are available at what ones are not. For instance, by clicking on 'later/earlier trains' sometimes a certain time would be available and other times it would not within the same price category. The problem with refusing your card seems to be that the site thinks the seats are available when you put them in your basket but not when you pay so rejects the payment.

SO : book each journey seperately and pay for it IMMEDIATELY. I know this will be annoying having to keep putting in your details (I did it for 8 tickets) but that solved the problem for me and it won't cost any extra if you use a debit card.

    Hope that helps.

does anyone know if they check whether you have a savercard whilst showing the tickets on the train? ie could I book saying I do have a savercard when I don't? There is a word for it I know (before I get flamed!)but I was just curious....
Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

I do have a card, the tickets say on they are only valid with the card but I've never been asked for it in two years of using the trains regulalry. I suppose it's whether you want to risk having to pay the full amount if you are unlucky enough to get caught out. Personally I don't think it is worth the risk...

This problem isn't specific to Scotrail's website. I was looking at the tickets I wanted on www.thetrainline.com yesterday (purely because I know my way around that website better) and it was doing the exact same thing.

I remember I had a a similar problem a few years ago and when I phoned to try and find out what was happening I was told that most of the train companies release their cheap tickets for sale on a Monday and a Wednesday afternoons and this might be causing hiccups as the websites would be in the process of "releasing" them and uploading/downloading the new information onto them. Wether this was me being fobbed off or not I don't know but to my untechnical brain it sort of made sense and I could see how that would be feasible.

I haven't tried it again this morning so don't know if the same thing is happening or not but it may be one explanation.

Either that or the websites just can't cope with the demand of everybody wanting cheap tickets

, When booking online be sure to click 'add' after entering your promotional code. This will refresh your page and show the 2 for 1 First ScotRail offer at the bottom. You must select from this dropdown in order for the discount to appear.

FAO People block booking day returns:

It does say in the T&C's that a maximum of 5 tickets are allowed to be booked in any 1 transaction. So, although I have booked 14 trips in one booking and I've had the email confirmation, I guess they have a right to cancel it.
