No-one makes pies????

Fellow OSers, prepare to be shocked. I went into Lakeland today (that's not the shocking part!) to buy a new pie-tin. I eventually arrived at the till with some cake tins, some measuring spoons and some choccy stuff for Christmas presents. The sales assistant asked cheerily, "Did you find everything you wanted today?"
"Well, no actually, I really came in for a pie-tin but I couldn't find them."
"Oh, we don't sell them," she said. "Nobody makes pies any more!"
I somehow managed to keep a smile on my face while saying "Oh yes they do!"
Oh well, looks like it's a trip to Robert Dyas when I get back from my hols then!

So I wonder why they still sell rolling pins? Aren't they commonly used for rolling out pastry, and isn't pastry used to make.........pies?
Have a great holiday ivyleaf (just in case you're too busy to log-on tomorrow!!)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
I've had this problem too, I really need a decent sized pie dish. At the moment I'm using an 8" sandwich tin but it's really not big enough.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

OMG!!! We make pies - we can't stand the ready made ones. All sorts of pies, but Steak & Kidney is a real favourite.
Remember, you can make them on a large plate, but it needs to be a deep plate with a decent "dip" in the middle. I find that the lid off a pyrex casserole is fine - but you need to grease it well.
I also make pork/game pies with hot water crust pasty. I make these in a deep cake tin!
Don't give up if you can't get a tin. Bet your granny used a deep plateWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I've found these but even on the internet it's virtually impossible to buy one

What I would suggest is a toddle round the boot sales looking for those old enamel plates, they are ideal for pies.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I have a 10" non stick pie plate that I am almost sure I bought in Tesco but I must admit it was a while ago.........#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I have found charity shops a haven for kitchen equipment. One reason seems to be that as older people cease to live independently their relatives give their kitchen equipment away because they have no use for it.
This means that our local Hospice shop is brill for pie plates, casseroles and all sorts of things like that - my daughter and I have a field day.:DTrue wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060 -
Thanks for all the replies, everyone! And for the kind offer, Queenie! I'll have a look in our local charity shops, and if no luck I'll try Robert Dyas. I've got 3 enamel roasting tins I got from there. I just remembered that at Bluewater there is a specialist cookware shop,(not Lakeland, another one) so they might stock them - bet stuff costs a lot in there though!:D
And I do have a Pyrex casserole lid, which I wouldn't have thought of using, so thanks very much Debt_Free_Chick.0
