Passport Fees Going Up Again Soon.

Options
The new Passport Fees come into effect on 5th October 2006. Adult passport's go up from £51 to £66 and children's passport's go up from £34 to £45.

Now is the time to renew your passport, even if you have up to nine months left on your old passport, renew it now and your new passport will be valid for 10years and 9 months (children 5 years and 9 months. Please note, you can not do this if you have over 9 months left on your passport.

To get in at the old price the Passport Office must receive your application forms by 5th October and the passports must be issued by 26th October.

By acting now we have saved £22 on new passports for our children.

I hope you are in a position to use this advice to save yourself some money!!!

And more importantly, I believe all new applicants will get interviewed when applying for a first pasport and all this data will be put on your passport 'chip'.
Next stop Legeslative and regulatary reform bill and Id cards...

Does anyone else agree the price is way too expensive for what it is?

No! A passport is not obligatory it is a needed if you go an holiday abroad , which I guess is still classed as a luxury and as it lasts for ten years it works at to roughly 14p a week

I'm glad I renewed mine last year! I do think it's too expensive - you need a passport if you get sent away for work too - OK, so my employer paid for my first passport, but when I married they kept on booking in my new name, and expected me to pay to get it changed.

If you ever want to change banks, etc, it seems a passport is one of the few accepted forms of ID - especially if you don't drive.

Until my neighbour popped in yesterday asking me to check her passport renewal form, I didn't realise that, over a certain age, the passport is free.

Apparently you don't have to pay if you were born prior to a certain date in 1929 - not a lot of people know thet, & not a lot will be able to benefit!
  • I also meant to add the if you are going to the USA next year be sure that you have up to 6 full months left on your passport or you will not qualify for the Visa Waiver Programme and you and all your family will need to visit the US Embassy in London and pay lots of money for visas. If you will have less than 6 months left on your passport before your return date then once again now is the time to get your cheap and simple new passport.

I liked the last post about Free Passports, the full information is as follows:

If you’re a British national born on or before 2 September 1929 you can apply for a free standard 32-page ten-year passport from the Identity and Passport Service (formerly the UK Passport Service).

If you have applied for a passport since 19 May 2004 and you’re eligible for a free passport, you can apply for a refund of the standard passport fee.

The Identity and Passport Service can provide information about your free passport or applying for a refund on the Passport Adviceline 0870 521 0410, 24 hours a day. Geo Cheap alternative - 01733 888004 (Not 24 hour).

 Should we need a pass-port for movement within the EU

Nope. You technically only need a driving licence.
