mcafee has run out is there any better

Options
My Mcafee has run out and just been online to renew and its £49.99, is there any better/cheaper which will protect the same. I also need to get one put on my daughters laptop which she got yesterday so that would mean £100 for both:eek:

    use this to remove Mcaffee

    Download and run MCPR.exe
    1. Download the removal tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
    2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
    3. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
    4. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
    5. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

NOTE: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.
    6. Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.
Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.

be prepared as you might spend a while removing infections that mcafee has missed.

avira antivir is another good choice as well

Not as good as MSE I switched and Avira had missed stuff. Got 2 stars in Computer Shopper.

    What had Avira missed?

AV COMPARITIVES says completely different (And I wouldnt trust computer shopper at all)

I would trust my own experience more than AV Comparatives. And Computer Shopper did a proper test with real viruses and malware.

On my old computer (I have an old P3 and a new Core2 Duo) I had no AV software and it picked up some stinking virus stuff. Avira couldnt detect it all when i installed it, it got most but left a really annoying thing behind. MSE cleared it effortlessly. I cant remember what it was.
