Private parking- advice please.

Hello all,
My car was parked in a private retail park shopping centre last weekend. Parking is absolutely free at this shopping centre and there is no hour’s limit for parking.
When I got back to my car, there was a notification of authorised parking by UKPC. I went to read their parking rules on the signpost and it said I would have to pay £70 penalty charge within 28 days or £35 if paid within 14 days. Is this really legal?
Can they actually force me to pay the penalty charge? Can they take me to court for this?
Thank you

Please, please read all the other threads on here. Then you will realize that you won't have to pay a penny. What the parking company has done is not legal and you haven't broken any laws. Just ignore any correspondence from them and they will eventually lose interest in you. And by the way, "disabled parking spaces" on private car-parks have no basis in law. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Just file the fake ticket, and any letters they'll send to the registered keeper. Don't reply and don't let them know who the driver was, as it gives them someone to aim their letters at.
It is NOT a fine, private companies cannot issue fines. It's a scam.
Do you know how many other threads like this one there are on here. You would be surprised, but hopefully enlightened by the truth about this racket. You just need to read this info in this sticky, written by Crabman:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1363571
and then if you want to know how other people on here are getting on who are also in your shoes, then browse the whole sub-board of threads here (look for those where it's not a Council ticket, you'll see a common theme):
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...lay.html?f=163
Having read all that then relax and file away the ticket.
Add to your 'file of trash' any letters that are sent about it in the coming months, including threatening/scary ones from Solicitors and Debt Collectors. I think UKPC use 'Rossendales' Debt Collectors, these people have NO clout and are not bailiffs. They cannot fine you, nor seize your car, nor affect your credit rating without a CCJ (and they won't go to Court, they just like to scare you into thinking that they will).
DON'T PAY! DON'T APPEAL! DON'T WRITE TO THEM!
hth
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you for the responses.
I have been reading the other threads. If this is a scam & illegal, how come these companies can issue these charges openly and publicly to so many people?0 -

Because the "authorities", ie trading standards, police etc, are not interested in stopping them. The government makes loads of money by selling everyones details to them through the DVLA.0 -
When are the ppc's going to realise that if the put a charge of say £5.00 or £10.00 for overstaying the hour then we would all probably pay up and they would not have to chase anything like the amount they do. It would surely be more profitable However as they are greedy and issue an exorbitant ""penalty"" then more and more will do as we advise and IGNORE them..I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

we know that disabled parking bays have no basis in law but its still morally wrong for able bodied to park in them.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I think most people realize that, but it's not only morally wrong but also a criminal act for private parking companies to try extort exorbitant fees from those people who break their unenforceable "rules".What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
To people that are worried about the threats issued by the scammers and the debt collectors, please note that MSE and other consumer forums are hitting them hard by telling potential victims that these parking charges are unforceable. This has resulted in one scammer setting up two spoof forum websites (now closed down) and the occaisional 'troll' hired by a PPC to throw a spanner in the works of a discussion. If the advice given in these forums was incorrect, the scammers would not resort to underhand tactics. They would merely smile and rake in the money.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

Would it be morally wrong for someone to use on if their passenger had sprained their ankle? Or it only morally right if you have a blue badge?0 -

have you ever had a sprained ankle, i wouldnt want or probably not even be able to go shopping with a sprained ankle.
i have multiple joint arthritis and i feel like i have a sprained body at times but because i can walk more than a few yards i cannot have a blue badge so i dont park in disabled bays.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
