Well done to everyone who completed the November challenge, and a warm welcome to all newcomers! (if I forget to put you on the first page list - nag at me until I do :rotfl:, oh and you don't have to put your starting weight down unless you really want to!)

Here goes for another half stone challenge! Well being as it is the Festive Season (Yule, Hannukah, Christmas, Festival of Lights! Have I missed any?) how about 5 pounds this time ;)

Don't think of how much you'd like/need to lose, just focus on losing those 5lbs for December! See, it doesn't seem so bad, does it :D

This is a useful site for tracking your weight, food etc

http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/account/index.php

You set up your own target by inputting weight, height, how active your lifestyle is, and any medical conditions. Then each day you keep a food diary by inputting what you eat, and also an activity log. The site works out your calories for input (food) and output (activity). The idea is that you keep the input between 500 and 1000 cals below the output, but without dropping below the minimum food cals set by the site for your lifestyle etc. And best of all the calorie count site is free!

If you're interested sign up here and lets help each other :T

Remember - It's 2009 and we are doing just fine!!!

How is everyone else planning to deal with the dreaded cupboards full of delicious food over Christmas? I think I'm going to stick two fingers up to the diet on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and will eat my normal calorie allocation the rest of the time. I really don't want to be calorie counting on Christmas day but as we only have breakfast and then the main meal at 3pm-ish, things might not be too bad.
  • Im doing the same I shall stuff my face Christmas day and Boxing day with whatever I desire! Then work extra hard afterwards to get rid of it again! How much weight can one put on in one day afterall.... Hehe x
  • Hi dragon, sign me up too!! (sorry meant to say please :o) loving the title this month - you are clever! :D

I'm with you Alexnikov and Melissa x, will eat what I want, but in moderation, for the 2 day's and then try and stick to a rough diet the rest of the time. Well that's the plan anyway's......................Don't want to undo all my good work, just for the sake of two day's, but sadly the food is gonna last more than two day  unless someone eats it (but not me!!!). Not planning on buying too much anyway this year. x

Hi Alexnikov (Melissa x and poshstock!)

We will be at my parents this year (hopefully!) and they luckily do not get too much food in (they are in their 80's now and basically don't have the appetite any more!) so sticking to a reasonable diet should be doable (now about the wine, cider, liquours etc!)

Me please The Dragon. :) I start this one with so much enthusiam, I'm really wuite chuffed having at last met a monthly Challenge.

Three cheers for The Dragon for all her organising of us. Thank you!

I'm going to stick to the 7lb challange if that ok.

How I'm planning to cope....for me the big food day will be boxing day, and I will llow my self a day of relative hedonism with food.

I'm keeping a sall plate instead of a main sized plate and I'll have normal christmas lunch, but focus on the veg and meat, not roasties for me!

Wedon't tend to get lots of junk food in...we're not a very junky family, and I think I can budget for a mince pie. Calorie intake is usually our own boxing day party, and in wine/drinks glasses around the season. But we're doing less this year so should be less of a challenge.

The only thing I think I'll really miss but don't plan to have is a sumptuous glass of egg nog, one of my favs, oh and a marzipan fruit, I love them, but not enough to be set back, and hey are really just calories!

the other tactic of course, is to ignore the weather and up the exercise. no excuse for not fitting in a few walks, one daily, if we are indulging with food on days off, get the family to pull their weight with household stuff, and get out into fresh air: its good for everyone, with any uck there will be robins to fee and beautiful weather to celebrate as well, crisp frosts I hope!

    Good luck people!

ETA: another thing to remember is that christmas is towards the end of the month and we'll be a ood way through the challenge. I don't want to put anything on that I lose, but I don't mind not losing. I think with almost another months...over three weeks, loss behind me I'll be thining very hard about how much of that I'm prepared to regain.

Party techniques remain the same,e.g. fizzy water in a short glass looks like a G and T if you are with very drinky people and don't want to be noticed.

Dragon, please add me again! WI on Monday, hoping to have lost something by then!!! :o

I am going to do my usual Christmas eating - a light breakfast, then Christmas dinner spread out through the day (we can't eat all 3 courses in one go - we have the starter, then chill out for a while, then the main course, then laze about, then dessert at about 8pm!!!). So it doesn't work out too bad really.

    I love Christmas. D

Everybody ready for this month? :)

Hopefully for the five pounds we'll be on target in only three weeks (thinking of 2lbs a week) so the five lb challangers will be a head of the game for Christmas week. :)

I'd like to know how you all deal with odd hankerings/cravings. The only thing I really, really want ATM is oysters. My dearest DH and my mother both tried to get me some this weekend, (I got the last two at Waitrose on friday, I had one DH had one, but one isn't enough!) but we couldn't get them. Now, while oysters aren't the worst things in the world (I think they are ten calories each?) if my want had been for something ''bad'' and easily available I think it would have been more miserable trying to avoid it.

(NB, I'm hoping next friday to have ordered some oysters to scoff for supper!
