new delivered car different from advertised specifcation

I recently bought a new car and have found that it is not the same as the advertised brochure or specification for model I purchased.

These range from cosmetic functional changes i.e. roof bars, boot light, chrome exhaust not on the car anymore, photos in brochure show these features
to functional items listed in the specification but not supplied with the car such damper on the glove box when mine does not have one.

The manufacturer states they can change the specification without notice, the specification and brochures are the same as when I ordered the car to current date on their website and same as the brochures in the dealer. I was never notified that these changes occured as its only due to fuller inspection after delivery I have noticed these changes however they are still advertised as having these items.

Where do I stand?

  • In the bochure did it say "photo is for illustration purposes only and do not represent real life..."
  • Was your car discounted in any way?

Images are for illustrative purposes only and may not be to UK specification.

however the photos and car were the same in last years revision they do not illustrate this years revision.
the web site has a legal notice link at the bottom when it displays the specification, but its not obvious and says they reserve the right to change specificaiton.

however the dealer at the time told me to look at the website as this was the up to date specification and brochure as they did not have printed brochures at the time.

the car was on offer at the time but the offer was across the range on this model.

I would ask why the car was on offer.

Last years spec is a usual reason for this.

however this is this years specification model it took them 12 weeks to build and ship the car so it was not a stock car.

the model changes around this time of year.
  • You seem to know all about the model change, what the brochure says about it etc. Very clued up and so you should be when making a considered purchase.

So how come you didn't notice the cosmetic functional changes to roof bars, boot light and a chrome exhaust not on the car anymore on your inspection when you took delivery of the car?,

    Brand new car I assume?

Did you choose any options? Or did you question if your car would come with a chrome tailpipe and damper on the glove box...?
