MoneySaver tiff's a long-time forum regular who originally began this fantastic discussion back in 2005! It's inspired many a MoneySaver to just use what's in the cupboard before resorting to the shops.

I saw this idea on an American forum and thought we might be able to do it here. Most of us are guilty of going to the supermarket and yet we have a freezer full or cupboard full of ingredients we could use to make a meal.
Challenge - Here is the challenge I have set for myself and for those of you who would also like to participate: at least once a week, post a recipe utilizing ingredients you find in your kitchen and/or cupboard (that includes your freezer). Nothing that you purchased at the supermarket intending to use in a couple of days or in a specific recipe, but something that's just… "sitting there waiting."
Make your dish, then tell us about it! If it's a good one and you feel it's worth of posting and sharing with others, please do so!
The only trouble is, I went shopping today so it might be a while before I post a recipe with ingredients that were just sitting there! Anyway, its worth a go, could be interesting and gives inspiration to others at the same time

Or might have too! Am skint and have cupboard full of stuff thats been there for ages :-[
If I dont return its 'cos it all ended up in the dog ;DSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Will have a good ferret through me cupboards next week and see what I can find. From memory I know I have a box of suet, a box of vannilla blamange, and a jar of cherries in kirsch. Any ideas anyone :-/Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Ooh yes I need to have a go at this to recover from the cost of my weeklong season ticket to london - £176.60
I wouldn't mind but I could have gone abroad for that, in fact I will be going abroad for less than that.

at the end of last term I had to make an effort to eat as much stuff as possible from my cupboard so I didn't have to take it all home (have to empty my room at the end of every term). Ended up having spaghetti with all kinds of random tins and little else - broad beans and some ancient brie, and chickpeas with lemon juice are ones I remember...0

I've jsut written up a weeks menus based on what I have in the cupboard and freezer - will post it
but for the time being
tonights dinner was prawn rogan josh with rice
made with a jar of pataks sauce (probably bogof at some point), two tins of toms (both dented and on reduced shelf), a packet of prawns (bogof), a sprouty onion all bunged into slo cooker and served with boiled rice. yum.Blah0 -
Corn Beef Hash
Potatoes past there best, not quite sprouting
Onions-sprouting
Tin corn beef-think it was reduced once and beef oxo Cube.
Curried Lentils
Orange lentils, handful of that dired soup mix with all pulses in, sprounting onion or two, handful of frozen peas and peeled apples starting to go crinkly. Chop all up, fry for couple of mins, add home made stock from freezer (after turkey bones) and curry/chilli powder to taste. Bung in slow cooker.
Serve with rice, or those almost out of date nann breads!:j0 -
last nights was
turkey rissotto
fry a pound of rice in little veg oil in a large casserole,add a chopped up onion, when onion is soft and rice is whiteish add chopped up turkey from xmas ,any veg left in fridge and dried mushrooms from last summers camping stores.Cover with boiling water and stick in a hot oven for 30-40 mins.0 -
Pasta bake with dried pasta shapes, tin of chicken soup, few frozen peas, salt, pepper. Mixed up bunged in oven then covered in cheese til brown. Was actually yummy and could be done with mushroom soup or similar.Mink0
