I've not worked since 2006 due to mental health.
At the current time I study via Open University, give me some hope and work my mind. i'm only in my early 20s.
The problem Ihave is I hear voices which at times, places people in danger at times. Mainly I express things the voices are saying. Resulting in panic and arrested for own safety or others. Inc emerengency detentions under mental health act.
There is problems at times also in regards goj gut and about. however at times I can be fine. The same goes for my mental health.
I just can't see myself working, i know I can't go into what i want. That being Law, due to my health and previous.
Fell as if I'm just stuck in a rut and not moving. Feel me working might place others and me in danger should my voices change. Which they do.
Any advice here?
Thanks

You should discuss going back to work with your CPN/Mental Heath worker.0
-
You might also discuss with your CPN doing some form of voluntary work. This will put less pressure on you because when you are not well, or feel that your mental health issues are not properly controlled by your medication, you can take time away from your voluntary work until you are well again.
Your OU studies will still be of use to you even if you don't find paid work in the law, as they will teach you to look at problems objectively and to see things from other viewpoints, which will be useful whatever you decide to do in the future.
Good Luck!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
It is a positive step that you are looking towards your future, but don't feel that you have to jump into something before you are ready.
There is no reason why you cannot enter the legal profession once your condition is managed. Indeed, you may be able to offer an insight into cases that others cannot. The incidence of mental health conditions in the legal profession is very high, so hopefully if you do pursue that path you will be able to find a mentor that can relate to your condition.

Maybe you can combine your interest in law and the previous suggestion to undertake voluntary work by doing something that compliments both, such as helping an information/advice charity, such as benefits, consumer or housing advice (Citizens Advice, Shelter and so forth).
Much of their work is helping the public know their rights and is sometimes the step that replaces having to seek expensive legal advice.0 -
Thanks for getting back.
I have also 3 convictions for Breach of Peace. Mainly related to suicide attempts, my own lawyer said my convictions are nothing to worry about.
I find like citizens Advice etc do checks. Two of my convictions will show up, as the other I was Admonished.
The current moment I'm on NO medication, apart from tablets for anxiety. Nothing to control the voices. Why, who knows. I've had 8 Psychiatrists since 2006. Just recently there is now a full time Psychiatrist.
At times find it shocking. I would have to follow my voices then, well I would be facing Life. Until then, well..............
Bizzare. Thank god majority of the times i'm aware resulting in picking up a phone.0 -
Prior was more than half way into a very good career, left Army to pursue. Life just well, like jumping out a tower block.
Voices got worse, were managable. no Doctor etc had any idea. The best way I still think to be fair.0 -
Awareness is a big part in managing mental health problems, so you have taken a big step forward in beginning to realise when you are becoming unwell.
I understand how frustrating it is when psychiatric care is so erratic. I am on my fourth psych this year, so there is no continuity. Hopefully now you will be able to get a care plan established.
One day at a time. Best of luck.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Get some AP's sorted ASAP. I have the same things going on, and I know they'd be bad without (andthey were) so you need to see your GP asap and see if you can get an emergency referral for some medication to help you.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

Its a nightmare. I'm meant to take responsibility. I'm aware whats going on. Yet there has been a few incidents where I've thought I have done things. Incidents which I bearly mind.
Don't think I have a care plan. I'm highly intelligent as I'm doing Law. Therefore can work out my own problems. Anti-Psychotics, god would be scared to ask. Might think something else.
Was on Prozac, Valuim, Respordom. That halted year ago.0 -
I'm assuming your psychiatrist knows you're not taking any medication. That's between you and them, but in my very unprofessional opinion it sounds like your problem isn't one of those that magically gets better with soul-searching/de-stressing/eating more lentils or whatever. I'm not usually one to suggest mind-altering drugs, but since you haven't tried anti-psychotics, going down that route and seeing if things improve might be your only option if you want to feel stable enough to work. Hasn't your psychiatrist suggested anti-psychotics? You said you were too scared to ask, but surely if your shrink knows what's going on in your head (do they?), anti-psychotics are kind of a no-brainer...
Again, that's just my unprofessional opinion! In any case, you're really not "supposed" to manage this kind of psychosis with just your will power. It's an uncontrollable chemical/physical process, not a few unruly neurons you're too weak to rein in. I'm really sorry you're having to deal with this.0
