May 2010 weddings!

Hi everyone
I couldn't see that there was a thread for May 2010 weddings so I've decided to start one. I'm new to the forums (Well, new to posting anyway. I'm a long time lurker!).
I'm trying to do the whole thing for under £5000 and with the help of all the useful tips here hopefully it will be possible. I haven't got very far with the planning. Was looking at the June 2010 thread and people have done so much more than I have.
I will hopefully make my own cake using a recipe on the Good Food website as inspiration. I've already tested the chocolate layer and it's lovely!
I bought my dress cheaply on Preloved. It's 'inspired' by a Maggie Sottero and while it's really nice I could use some opinions on whether it looks OK or not. I guess the only thing is that I lack the confidence of knowing it's' made by a real designer. I don't think I can post pictures yet. When can I do this?
I'd also appreciate tips on finding a good dressmaker to alter the length for me.
Hope I haven't rambled on too much. I'd really like to hear from others who are getting married in May.

Aw poo. Should I start a new thread or can a moderator change the title?
Where's the smacking head smiley?
I've got no hope of planning this wedding the way I'm going! :rotfl:0 -
You will be ok.
I have not been particularly moneysaving with the wedding so far, but I did pick up my Ian Stuart Bonaire for £440 (c. £1800) so that's a start...0 -
you can change the title! Just click on the 'edit' button then 'go advanced'.0

YAY!!! I'm a May 2010 bride!!! We are getting wed on the 30th May at 1.30pm and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!
We are flying up to Gretna Green with some select family members.
So far I have;
* Ordered my dress from Landy - due to land in 23 days time - eek
* Chosen suit hire for the men
* Paid for the ceremony at the Anvil Hall
We have put deposits on;
* Photographer
* Horse and Carriage
* Wedding breakfast at Smiths Hotel
* Room for after the wedding (we are staying in the Rose Suite at the Smiths and it is AMAZING)
* Booked honeymoon to Mexico.
There is sooo much more to do! I am really enjoying the planning.
What is everyone else doing?

Nice dress Kylie. And such a bargain too.
Thanks for the tip Kelda.
LittleMadam - you sound so prepared! What dress have you gone for? I was considering getting my dress from Landy.
Can't post a picture of my dress yet but will do when I can.
I am having the ceremony at the register office and reception at a restaurant so I think there's not too much to organise but I still need to think about invitations, hair & makeup, shoes... I keep forgettinng about things.0 -
Hi Yumyums,
I have gone for a Maggie Sottero Dion
Will let you know how the dress comes out from Landy if you are considering them!
As for being organised I just enjoy the planning! It gives me something to do lol. What dress is it you are going for? If you are picking a date thats a Saturday it may get booked up as some places do, have you asked what availability is like?
As for forgetting about things it is the nitty gritty little bits!!! Like jewellery and as you say make up etc.
So come on!!! let us know the dress you like!!!0 -
I'm a May 2010 too!! 22nd to be exact!
We're trying to be MSE too, although I kind of ruined that by going dress shopping last weekend...lets just say that my dress is no longer part of our budget thanks to my lovely mum and gran.
Apart from that we're looking at about £5k inc honeymoon. As long as I don't get carried away again!0 -
The dress I like is a Maggie Sottero Mandy (sorry can't post links yet). I couldn't find this dress anywhere but managed to find an unworn copy on Preloved which fits me (almost) perfectly! It was very cheap too. I just need to find a good dressmaker to alter the length as it's a little too long.
Your dress is lovely. Please post pictures when you get it.
I'm getting married on Sunday 23rd. The register office is booked thankfully. Would have liked the 30th but it was fully booked because of the bank holiday.
What are you doing about hair and makeup? I don't know where to start looking0 -
Hi all,
I'm a May 1st 2010 bride and i have everything organised due to the fact I was due to get married on Sept 5th 2009, but had to postpone due to fire at venue
Though, having said I have everything - I may have to get another bridesmaid dress and shoes for my 12 year old daughter, the rate she's growing!
