Anyone know if I transfer a direct debit from one Nationwide account to my main Nationwide account, would I qualify for the payment?

    No.
Has to be from another bank or building society.

For those who have done this in one of Nationwide's similar offers recently, is there any paperwork to be done, or any letters sent through the post? Or is it all done online?

Only if you've made a mistake to select 'Send me a list ...' option. Oh, and they do send a confirmation letter - together with the Salary Switching Form ;)

I did this and it was more trouble than it was worth. One of my credit card companies refused to accept a direct debit transfer from Nationwide (without any indication to me), and now I've been charged 2*£12 late payment charges. A secure message to Nationwide complaining about this remains unanswered five days later. And I missed a payment with another company because of timing problems (although a phone call got this charge reimbursed).
  • Do u av 2 switch salary??
I av a A&L account with 2 SOs Would that be enuff??

All they do is ask the organisations to switch the DDs it really is up to you to make sure they have been successfully changed. It's the same with all banks.

    From the Nationwide web site:-

We will notify your direct debit companies of your change in account details. It's then the responsibility of the individual companies to change their records within ten working days of notification. However, it can take longer than this for your records to be updated, so we would advise you to ensure that there is enough money left in both your old and new accounts to cover your payments until you are satisfied the account transfer process is complete.

Last time I transfered 1 SStanding Order, looking at the T&C's 'theoretically;' I would guess you could just transfer the Bill Payments and still qualify!
  • Great stuff. Set up a small £5 standing order on my RBS account, entered the details on Nationwide for all payment mandates etc... to be transferred ASAP. Hopefuly £50 coming my way! :)
